The records in this FBI file, dated 1922-1923, contain correspondence from William J. Burns, former Director of Investigation, concerning a theory that John Wilkes Booth lived many years after his assassination of President Abraham Lincoln. The file includes the results of a 1948 examination by the FBI laboratory of a boot said to be worn by Mr. Booth on the night of the assassination. In addition, the file includes a 1977 examination of a diary that belonged to Mr. Booth.
