God, feeling sorry for the Israelites, assisted Moses in getting them out of slavery....parted the red sea etc.

He watched them wandering around in the desert for a while. They were wandering, and cavorting and bickering and complaining and frolicking a bit too much.

500 years prior to this he had assisted Hammurabi in Babylon in devising a Code of Conduct for his peoples...the Hammurabi Code....it was rather lengthy 99 precepts in all...but hey it was the first written code of conduct....what can you expect?

Watching those Israeli's in the desert God figured out that they a were a stiff necked people, had a short memory and a short attention span.

What to do?   He needed to get their attention.  Aha.......a burning Bush!  That's it!  So he appeared to Moses in the Burning Bush....(got his attention all right!.)

God also realized that since his people were ignoring the more lengthly Hammurabi Code of conduct...he needed to make this one really stick....So he decided to put into his new abbreviated (The Cliff Note Version) code a stern warning:

"Thou shalt have no other gods before me"...gave it a rather authorative air.

He worked with Moses and the two tablets with the 10 instead of 99 commandments (easier to carry around too) were give to the wandering jews.

Thus the first cliff notes were born.

Take that Zell baby!

what hypocrisy, what gall
for Zell "Cornpone snake-charming" Miller
to say we cannot put up a sign warning of the evils of living a sinful life

I think the implication to his Nascar audience was that they live a sacred life and "others" live a sinful life. That the warning is to those "others" who would be against such a sign.

Sins come oozing out of most christians that I know. Who knows what has oozed from Sell Out Miller in his days.....

Happy Birthday!

Yo yo... for folks who actually know what a Public Advocate is... haha! Just kidding... Norman's doing well against Betsy "Where is She?" Gotbaum. Woohoo!!
----------------------
Dear Friends,

The good news continues...

On Thursday, DC-37 endorsed me. DC-37's Executive Director, Lillian Roberts, said OUR campaign "best represents the interest of our members and of ALL New Yorkers."

Tuesday, the Marist College Institute for Public Opinion said we trail the incumbent Public Advocate, by just seven percentage points (20%-13%), with a whopping 50% of voters as yet undecided. (NOTE from Elderta: cause even people in NEW YORK CITY don't know what a Public Advocate is, either!)

As we enter the last four weeks before Primary Day, September 13, our message continues to resonate with ALL New Yorkers.

We need your help. Our success depends on getting our message to the undecided 50%. We need to saturate local TV, radio, Internet and print media in the final two weeks leading up to the September 13th primary.

At every street corner, every subway stop, each New Yorker must know this city needs a Public Advocate who will actually work and fight for them. I'm asking you to make the contribution that will take us on to victory.

Contribute today.

Each New York City resident, by sending $20, $35 or even $100, you enable us to get a 4:1 match from the city – your gift of $25 means the city gives us an extra $100.

Thank you for your past generosity and support; it's what got us within 7 percentage points of leading the incumbent. Our first televised debate is on Tuesday, August 23 on NY 1 from 7 - 8 PM.

The next two weeks are critical - the incumbent will saturate the airwaves in September; undecided voters make their decision based on name recognition. Please help us get our message out to ALL of them.

Thank you!

Regards,
 Norman

"Good news for domestic diva Martha Stewart. A recent CNN/USA Today/Gallup poll shows her positive rating among the American public is holding stable at 52% favorable, 31% unfavorable. That's essentially the same rating she received last February, just before she was released from prison on March 4."

Roberts Unlikely To Face Big Fight
Many Democrats See Battle as Futile

Tuesday, August 16, 2005

Democrats have decided that unless there is an unexpected development in the weeks ahead, they will not launch a major fight to block the Supreme Court nomination of John G. Roberts Jr., according to legislators, Senate aides and party strategists.

In a series of interviews in recent days, more than a dozen Democratic senators and aides who are intimately involved in deliberations about strategy said that they see no evidence that most Democratic senators are prepared to expend political capital in what is widely seen as a futile effort to derail the nomination.

'No-fly list' keeps infants off planes

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Infants have been stopped from boarding planes at airports throughout the United States because their names are the same as or similar to those of possible terrorists on the government's "no-fly list."

It sounds like a joke, but it's not funny to parents who miss flights while scrambling to have babies' passports and other documents faxed.

Ingrid Sanden's 1-year-old daughter was stopped in Phoenix, Arizona, before boarding a flight home to Washington at Thanksgiving.

Releasing photos and videotapes of detainee abuse at Iraq's Abu Ghraib prison would aid al-Qaida recruitment, weaken governments in Iraq and Afghanistan and incite riots against US troops, the chairman of the joint chiefs of staff warned in court papers.
The American Civil Liberties Union is seeking the release of 87 photographs and four videotapes taken at the prison as part of a lawsuit it filed in October 2003...

Election Fraud Continues in the US
In the fall of 2001, after an eight-month review of 175,000 Florida ballots never counted in the 2000 election, an analysis by the National Opinion Research Center confirmed that Al Gore actually won Florida and should have been President. However, coverage of this report was only a small blip in the corporate media as a much bigger story dominated the news after September 11, 2001.
New research compiled by Dr. Dennis Loo with the University of Cal Poly Pomona now shows that extensive manipulation of non-paper-trail voting machines occurred in several states during the 2004 election....
...There is little doubt key Democrats know that votes in 2004 and earlier elections were stolen. The fact that few in Congress are complaining about fraud is an indication of the totality to which both parties accept the status quo of a money based elections system. Neither party wants to further undermine public confidence in the American "democratic" process (over 80 millions eligible voters refused to vote in 2004). Instead we will likely see the quiet passing of legislation that will correct the most blatant problems. Future elections in the US will continue as an equal opportunity for both parties to maintain a national democratic charade in which money counts more than truth.

I believe everyone has their own personal heaven and hell. The tag line is a lyric from a song about selling your soul to the devil. Appropos of the times, I think.

"The devil says the only thing that’s buggin him is Hell’s filling up with Republicans."
    --Drive By Truckers

If you don't mind, could you please refrain from using the word (or a variation) 'handsome' and the name 'Rove' in the same statement, it makes me gag.

Thanks.

I understand that they originally posted the banner on Rove's forehead to see how it would look on the ship.

Talk about a Big Brain.

See when we lefties run out of things to say we do resort to personal attacks.

I sure hope we run out of things to say soon and start the attacking.

I have been looking at this tag for weeks now. I really like it . It did occur to me however that the loving God that I know is sending Republicans to Heaven.

THEY ARE BORED OUT OF THEIR SKULLS AND BONES BY ENNUI.

Every day is the same. Can't kill anybody. Can't steal from anybody. Can't conquer anybody.
HELL  now that's what I'm talkin about.

Yes, but not necessarily on the Bush payroll.

Well....we know they did it with Armstrong and "Gannon", and those are just the ones we know about.I suspect Rush, Drudge, Hannity, etc. Do you think they decided to stop doing it? Hardly........

I'm not quite ready yet to say they're being "handsomely paid by the Rove team" but I do think there a a certain number of them who know which side their bread is buttered on, so they "play to their base" so to speak. Lazy, greedy, disingenuous? Yes, but not necessarily on the Bush payroll.

I think there are several 'reporters' being handsomely paid by the Rove team to say bad things about Cindy Sheehan. This means they feel a need to shut her up, so she must be doing something right.
Pay no mind to these absurd attacks.......

"I haven't lost a loved one in this war, haven't made any sacrifices...hell, with the Bush tax cuts, I'm actually pulling down more money while being paid to spout bullshit about this war, so my words carry as much weight as those who have made the ultimate sacrifice. Look at what an important and drunken fucktard I am!"

Suppose I had lost a child in this war. Would any of my critics say that this gave me any extra authority? I certainly would not ask or expect them to do so. Why, then, should anyone grant them such a privilege?""

What if Cindy Sheehan was simply the organizer of a group of folks who were demanding an audience with Bush to explain the continued sacrifice of their countrymen (and women)? The moral issue remains the same, and the responsibility of the President of the United States remains the same.  What the hell is wrong with this woman asking ANY ELECTED OFFICIAL for some satisfactory answers?

And if Hitchens' logic rings true to a large number of people, then this country has truly lost its way. When we stop ascribing special weight to the words of those who have lost loved ones in service to the nation ... well, it's just plain unthinkable.

I will say that it's been a while since someone that I REALLY looked forward to, with a big-time cache, reach and voice - like, say, a Michael Moore - has been on.

Speaking of Michael Moore, here's some good news from Cindy Sheehan from his site:

cool hmm  In the white house, do they spit it out or swallow?  cool hmm

When will Hitchens do us all a favor and step in front of a bus?

"... Sheehan has obviously taken a short course in the Michael Moore/Ramsey Clark school of Iraq analysis and has not succeeded in making it one atom more elegant or persuasive. I dare say that her "moral authority" to do this is indeed absolute, if we agree for a moment on the weird idea that moral authority is required to adopt overtly political positions, but then so is my "moral" right to say that she is spouting sinister piffle. Suppose I had lost a child in this war. Would any of my critics say that this gave me any extra authority? I certainly would not ask or expect them to do so. Why, then, should anyone grant them such a privilege?""

Real easy to say "what if I'd lost a child" when you haven't, douchebag.

What's with the ho-hum topics on Al's show lately? It's not like there's nothing important going on, or no good guests available. I never thought I'd see the day where Ed Schultz' show was way more left wing than Franken's show. JEEEEEEZ.
