Diamond Lake : Home of Virginia's Ballpark

Diamond Lake is the proposed new town to be home to Major League Baseball in Northern Virginia . This new town concept offers a vibrant mix of uses and around-the-clock activity. Diamond Lake is at the crossroads of the fastest growing county in the United States (Loudoun) and one of its most populous ( Fairfax ). Together, these two counties are two of America 's most affluent. The project is adjacent to two limited access expressways and a major international airport. A planned metro rail station will be within walking distance. The new Smithsonian Air and Space Museum , Virginia 's largest tourist attraction, is just minutes away.

Diamond Lake will serve as the heralding gateway to Loudoun County .

The site lies at the eastern boundary of Loudoun County . The quadrant is over 400 acres; it borders Route 606 to the north, Route 28 to the west and the Dulles Toll Road to the south. We envision two main amenities: a baseball diamond and a large lake. We proudly call this new town " Diamond Lake ." In addition to Virginia 's Ballpark, shops, restaurants, hotel rooms, residential buildings, office buildings, parkland and more are all part of the project.

Why develop this area as we envision? It is the right use at the right place at the right time. Its location cries out to be a statement project, and can serve as high octane fuel for the economic development engine of Loudoun County . Our vision is to turn this industrial site into a diamond.a baseball diamond.

Diamond Lake is envisioned to be a vibrant town and destination. The new town is an ensemble of streets and open spaces that make Diamond Lake a rich and interesting delight in which to move about. Streetscapes will be carefully crafted, with well-planned landscaping and street trees. You'll find boardwalks and wide sidewalks for cafés and shops. From the residential squares to the retail promenades, from the square in front of the stadium to the festival streets that lead away from it, we envision a rich and wonderful matrix of greenery, a major league ballpark, commercial and retail, a residential mix, hotel rooms, and open spaces.

We are not just mindful, but respectful and supportive, of the environment. There will be significant open space in this new town. Plenty of green space is planned.

Diamond Lake is also a model for public-private cooperation. Working with the Virginia Baseball Stadium Authority and Loudoun County , we are able to plan a classic yet contemporary version of a new town. The project provides financial assistance to make the ballpark financing plan viable. This development (particularly when added to the new Udvar-Hazy Air and Space Museum only four miles away) will help facilitate bringing Metro rail to Dulles. Diamond Lake creates a new foundation for economic development in the County and along the Dulles Corridor.

As host to Virginia 's Ballpark, Diamond Lake will be a new paradigm for the location of Major League Baseball parks. Although other cities have sited stadiums within mixed-use projects, Diamond Lake is unique. It is not an urban redevelopment site, pioneering in an area. Nor is it a virgin project far out in the suburbs away from existing and expected development. Diamond Lake is located at the epicenter of existing and continued growth in Northern Virginia . At the crossroads of two main limited access expressways, an international airport, a planned Metro rail station, and over 2 million existing residents, Diamond Lake fills the hole in the donut.

Not only will Diamond Lake be a new paradigm for baseball, it will be a new paradigm for how urban-styled town centers will be designed. It is truly mixed-use, and able to take advantage of multiple transportation modalities. It is not just concrete and asphalt. There will be plenty of green and blue space (to go with the ballpark's red, white and blue aura). There will be well thought road improvements and systems to ensure smooth traffic flow, for baseball fans, for visitors and residents of Diamond Lake , and for the commuting public.

Going to Diamond Lake on game day is not just going to a game. It can be a daylong family experience, with safe, fun-filled, old-fashioned entertainment.
