Travel tips

Location

Lodi is located in California’s Central Valley, 35 miles south of Sacramento and 6 miles north of Stockton. Lodi is less than three hours southwest of Reno and two hours east of San Francisco.

Asian Festival
Just like the lion dancers who take part in the annual Asian Festival in the Delta town of Isleton, it always pays for visitors to plan ahead so they won't lose their heads once they arrive. (Jennifer M. Howell/News-Sentinel)
Geography

Lodi sits on top of both the Southern Pacific Railroad and U.S. Highway 99. Interstate 5 trots by less than five miles west of the city. The Mokelumne River, which starts at Lower Blue Lake in Alpine County (elevation: 8,100 feet) and stretches 140 miles to empty in the Delta, travels adjacent to the city’s northern border.

Weather

Wedged between the hot Central Valley and the cool Bay Area, Lodi features cool, rainy winters and hot, dry summers broken by a cooling Delta Breeze (coming off the vast Delta region with its thousand miles of waterways) which begins late most afternoons. The average high in July is 91 degrees and the average low in December is 37 degrees. The average yearly rainfall is 18.8 inches.

Attire

Shorts, skirts, light shirts and tank tops are entirely acceptable (and recommended) from March to October. Bundle up between November and February and prepare for rain. When packing, expect the unexpected — it could be 90 degrees and sunny or 65 degrees and raining on any given day in the early spring and late fall. Wind is common — pack a coat from September to June.
