Enlisted Career Counselors (MMEA-64)

The Enlisted Career Counselors support the future of our Corps by assisting Enlisted Career Marines in improving their performance for retention and their competitiveness for promotion through Performance Evaluation and Career Counseling.

Career Counselors counsel all Sergeants and above on active duty. While they provide an evaluation of performance, they cannot provide specific reasons for failure of selection to the next higher grade.

Requesting a career counseling session after failing selection is not the optimal time to receive advice or recommendations to increase one's competitiveness. To maximize the benefit of counseling, be proactive by calling 24 months prior to entering the promotion zone or prior to making career decisions such as a lateral move or an assignment request.

Counseling is best done interactively and it is preferred that Marines call or visit in person. The Marine's entire record is ordered and his/her performance is reviewed from a promotion standpoint. Please call DSN 278-9241 or Toll Free (800) 833-2320. You may also use our online counseling request form to pre-order your record before calling.

Please Note: Once the 60 day message for a board is released, counseling for all In Zone and Above Zone Marines is suspended until after the board.  At this time, Marines would have little time to act on major recommendations given and should focus on final updates to their official records and training data.

This website is literally a one-stop-shop for all matters pertaining to individual career progression. The 'Career Toolbox' contains useful tools for maintaining official records as well as the latest Career Counselor Handout for easy download. The 'Schedule' page will show all confirmed counselor trips, it is recommended that the Marines' Official Military Personnel File (OMPF) and Master Brief Sheet (MBS) be preordered (the link to the Records Request Form is located in the 'Career Toolbox') prior to the visit.
