Kristy Norton, an assistant coach for the last two seasons at North Carolina Greensboro and previously a standout player there, enters her second year as an assistant softball coach at James Madison University.
Norton was an All-Southern Conference and honorable mention All-South second baseman at UNC Greensboro, setting team career records for games started (252) and at bats (785) from 1998-2002, before joining the program’s coaching staff. Recruited to UNC Greensboro while Flynn was the head coach there, Norton is second on career UNC Greensboro lists for hits (222) and doubles (41) and fifth in runs batted in (106).
At JMU, Norton works primarily with the team’s infielders and hitters.
“I am thrilled to have Kristy joining the JMU softball staff. She has tremendous coaching knowledge, energy and enthusiasm for the game,” said Flynn, the coach of JMU’s program for each of its three varsity seasons.
“I consider myself fortunate to have recruited and coached Kristy at UNCG, and I am even more excited to coach along side her. She has a tremendous future in coaching,” Flynn said.
Norton worked with the team’s outfielders and hitters, developed the team’s strength and conditioning program and coordinated travel arrangements as a UNC Greensboro assistant. She was head coach of the Carolina Wildcats, an 18-years-and-under travel softball team, from 1999-2002 and an assistant on UNC Greensboro’s athletics facilities and operations management staff from 1999-2002.
Norton has a bachelor’s degree in exercise and sport science with a minor in coaching. The Fayetteville, N.C., native is currently completing work on her master's degree in sports administration at JMU.
