Umno and MCA accept MM's 'apology'

Not enough, say some leaders, while others consider the matter closed

KEY parties within the ruling Barisan Nasional coalition government largely welcomed what they viewed as Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew's 'apology' yesterday.

At the same time, several of their leaders criticised his reply to Prime Minister Abdullah Badawi.

In his reply, which was made public on Monday evening, MM Lee said that he was sorry that his remarks had caused the Malaysian leader 'a great deal of discomfort'.

MM Lee said that he was speaking to a liberal Western audience which wanted to see a stronger opposition in Singapore.

His view was that Singapore needed a strong government to maintain good relations with Indonesia and Malaysia. Foreign Minister Syed Hamid Albar said that while he did not regard MM Lee's reply as an 'apology', Prime Minister Abdullah's response should suffice.

'I think we have done what we could do,' he said in reply to a question on whether the Malaysian government would ask Singapore to retract MM Lee's remarks.

'The Prime Minister has given his statement (and) that is the position of the government.'

The Barisan coalition's Youth leader, Datuk Seri Hishamuddin Tun Hussein, accepted Mr Lee's apology for the discomfort caused by his comments about how Malaysia treated its Chinese community.

Datuk Hishamuddin heads the Youth wing of Umno which is the coalition's predominant party, and, as Education Minister is a senior Cabinet minister.

He said he was surprised by MM Lee's reply. He did not expect Mr Lee to apologise and it was not easy for him to do so, he added.

'We accept the apology, especially when it came from somebody who is very wise,' he told reporters after chairing the Barisan Nasional Youth exco meeting here.

The coalition's senior Chinese party, the Malaysian Chinese Association (MCA), urged closure following MM Lee's reply.

MCA president Ong Ka Ting said MM Lee's letter should put an end to what he described as minor bickering between leaders of the two neighbours.

'We should move on... the Prime Minister (Datuk Seri Abdullah Badawi) has already made his stand,' said Datuk Seri Ong.

'For the good of the two countries, we should move on and not prolong the argument.'

Other Umno stalwarts criticised MM Lee for not being sensitive enough when he made his remarks about the marginalisation of Chinese in Malaysia and Indonesia.

Information chief Muhammad Muhammad Taib also said it was not appropriate for Mr Lee, who is the city state's Minister Mentor, to link the issue to the sour bilateral ties with Malaysia and Malaysian leaders, particularly of former prime minister Mahathir Mohamad.

'Lee's action in highlighting the decade of troubled relations with the former prime minister gave the impression that Malaysian leaders, Umno leaders and the Malays like to create problems.

'This was an insult, and the remarks should not have been made by a leader from a neighbouring country,' said Tan Sri Muhammad in a statement here today.

He described Mr Lee's comments by dragging Tun Dr Mahathir into the issue, as 'fishing in troubled waters'.

Umno vice-president Mohamed Ali Rustam said that as a veteran leader, MM Lee should respect the sensitivities of a neighbouring country by not making provocative statements.

He said the matter should be a lesson so that the good relations which Malaysia and Singapore had enjoyed would not be affected by hurtful statements. - BERNAMA

Just one word to these BN idiots...

"Do unto others what you want others to do unto you..."

From 1998, you idiots have been shooting off your mouths about Malay marginalisation in Singapore... now when you tasted your own medicine, you cried foul... ain't that ironic?

To all Chinese out there, MCA accepts MM's apology...

This is because MCA as a so-called representative of the Chinese Community deem the statements by LKY is incorrect.

MCA (in collaboration with UMNO) deem that LKY is not right when he mentioned that the Malaysian government marginalises the non-Malays systematically.

Remember this point for the next election yeah. Thanks...

If this bodowi is to step down, do you think from the likes of Najis, Hisappoodin, Mahatiu or even the racist biggot SIL going to be better?

Let's really hope that in next GE, BN would lose miserably until some of its ministers become suicidal and jump off from KLCC towers.

What la?
Pak Lah's SIL, Khairy himself had said the same things to Singapore!
Ask Khairy to apologise to Singapore first before asking LKY to apologise!
As the saying goes: Do unto others as others would unto you.

Did they ever bother asking the "rakyat" before accepting it? They didn't represent the rakyat!

The Sing are really brilliant. They use the Annex as a mirror. Either way, it hits the other side hard. If the reply is considered as an "apology", i5 made the other side rude and rowdy for not apologizing back to the Sing.

Anyway, intelligent readers know it is not an apology but some need to save face and said it is. Like the saying goes : use other people backside as face.

here is something both umno and mca and for that matter all political parties to do instead of demanding all kind of apologies.

can you people take up the cudgel for the rakyat and sue the indonesians for polluting our air. it is suffocating us to death slowly but surely. i won't be surprised the incidences of lung cancer increasing in years to come.

or you won't sue them because they are "brothers"? please treat them as brothers when your close ones get lung cancer, bronchitis etc etc.

so who will be the first to take up this cudgel?? aab? any ministers? mca? mic?pas? keadilan?

time to earn your keep!!!!

That was no apology and these so called leaders of Malaysia are either trying tyo save face or being their normal, stupid self. LKY has just described the matter as it has stood for years and Hisham and co are either too dumb or stubborn to accept it. Either way the laugh really is on them. What idiots.

OKT can hold the "Kwan Tau"......with his face painted red!!

This is the only option they have to not make themselves look even more foolish than they already are today.

With LKY's full publication of the annex list of past racist comments made by Malaysian politicians themselves, these guys really had no other choice but to accept the "non-apology" and back off.

in order to save their fucking face, these UMNO racists have no choice but to accept whatever Harry Lee's reply and twist it according to their favour. Because they know that the ordinary rakyat will have no access to the contents of the letter. It was very clear that letter bore no apology at all.

Pathetic.

When practically everyone knows that Lee Kuan Yew did not apologize but on the contrary added insult to injury by his now widely publicised remarks that the Malaysian Chinese have been marginalized, it is amazing that the fucked up keris wielding samseng called Hishammuddin openly exhorts the contrary!!! Lee Kuan Yew must be having the loudest laugh now..and is thinking of when he would say the same thing again just to evoke the same kind of response from the keris wielding samseng!

This stupid issue has been going on for so many days.

We are so petty. Facts are facts and it was just a passing comments to foreign audience on why Singapore has to be strong and viewed as strong ...and politely strong.

Much ado about nothing.

Small boys arguing over trifling things when major issues like Haze that is killing everyone slowly is not talked about.

hey...big mouths ..fast on the draw to champions their stupid cause, fire the same guns towards Indonesia. Open your big mouths
before the haze kills us all.

Quiet as a mouse....

Every year ...get that stupid smelly haze.

To Singapore wow...big guns from everyone! Ya very clever.

We all know that UMNO and MCA will accept the explanation given by LKY because LKY is only helping the poor AAB
AAB is sinking and he can't face the people with all the cornyism and corruption charges, so he wants air to breathe and also wants to take the minds of the public from his scandals. So, he ask the help of LKY. As LKY hates the guts of TDM; he do not want TBM to kick out AAB. So all the LKY statement and the letter from LKY, AAB demand for a apology is all a SINDIWARA. The only fool who did not understand is, your guess is as good as mine. Syed Hamid, who still expecting a letter of apology. When did LKY have ever given an apology letter in his life time?
Singapore now knows that AAB's balls is in their hand, so they can manuplate according to their whims.
Now, we wonder, why TDM has said the present government has given permission to sale of sand and air space for the SAF. He has been telling all the while, the truth.

If the letter is not apologtic then why did UMNO and MCA accept it? Simple is it?

Hey guys

stop putting out negative stuff about Bumis and Singaporeans.

Lets just enjoy the NEVER ENDING POLICY because it has also been quite damn good to the chinese businesses.

Only problem of course, is if you are a poor chinese with no connections, you are good as screwed.

But then, if you are smart enough, NEP is the best gravy train you can ever get on.

Just look at Tan Sri Chua Hock Sing. he created a company, and did all the donkey work and twenty years later, sell to an UMNO PUTRA for over MR150 million.

Just emulate Tan Sri Chua. Dont bitch dont whine.

Also, we need to thank the BUMIS (or rather the Malaysian Muslims) for imposing a higher standard on the non muslims. As a result our children are so highly competitive and so well educated that it has increased the mental and business skills of non muslims versus the muslims in Malaysia. This is what drives TDM nuts, the more he give to the Muslims, the more parasitic and lazy they become, and the greater the gap to catch up with the non muslims.

Of course this means NEP will be the NEVER ENDING POLICY. It means also that the gravy train for smart non muslims will NEVER END. It means that we just need to figure out how to create businesses and then sell them to the UMNO PUTRAS.

I say thank you TDM, for the consequences of NEP. Your muslims will never be as clever, as hardworking and as manipulative as the non muslims because you force us into this corner.

I say thank you to all the ballless jerks in MCA and Gerakan, because we know that you all are only there not for Malaysians but for yourselves and your families, but we will survive NEP despite that Common Good was never your agenda.

The sad truth is despite the dumb jerks at DAP, at very least, their intents are pure for the good of all Malaysians.

I say lets support Badawi, give him a chance, the fighting created by Khairy is the best blessing we have ever had, because now AAB cannot allow race issues to surface again from those MUSLIMS (I SAY THEY ARE REALLY PORK EATING JEWS NOT MUSLIMS) to heat the issue again for the betterment of our country. (or maybe on second thought, THEIR country)
