from the President of the House of Councillors

As the 26th President of the House of Councillors, I am delighted to welcome you to this Website.

By enacting laws and conducting studies on national policy, the House of Councillors aims to improve citizens' standard of living and contribute to international peace as the highest organ of state power and the sole law making organ in Japan.
Under Japan's bicameral parliamentary system, the House of Councillors has a longer term than the House of Representatives and is not subject to dissolution. Taking full advantage of these characteristics, the House of Councillors plays the essential role of checking, balancing and complementing the House of Representatives from a long-term, comprehensive perspective.

The House of Councillors has implemented various measures to ensure that it is open to all citizens. On this Website, we provide information on the House's organization, the Diet-related Laws and so on.
We very much hope you will make active use of it.
