I'm stepping down from DFW

Democratic Party | DFA | Progressive Infrastructure
Hi everyone, I'm stepping down as Executive Director of Democracy for Washington. I'd like to hand the reins over to someone by the middle of January. Please feel free to ask questions and put out your ideas. Chad

Letter to Chair Dean

Democratic Party | DFA | Howard Dean
DNC Chair Howard Dean, You have spoken about how we need to focus more on the rural areas of the United States for Democrats to succeed; however, I see a fault in this argument. I believe in the idea and plan, but I do not feel that the members of the party understand how to be rural. I have worked on various campaigns and I have continually seen the downfall of the Democrats trying to bring people to the party. It is not where we stand on the issues, it is not how we respect others beliefs as a whole, but it is the everyday interactions that Democrats have with the average person.

Tacoma News Tribune endorses IRV

Election Reform | Local election

Pierce County has 9 Charter Amendments on the ballot in November. Amendment 3 would implement Instant Runoff Voting for County elections and below. The Tacoma News Tribune had this to say:

Proposed Amendment 3

Implements instant runoff voting.

This is an intriguing experiment in democracy worth trying.

Instant runoff voting is a method that eliminates primary elections and allows voters to rank their choices in order of preference. If no candidate draws a majority of first-place votes, the candidate with the fewest votes is eliminated, and the remaining votes are distributed according to voter preferences. The process is repeated until one candidate receives a majority. The process is done quickly by computer.

Dear Friend:

As many of you know by now, I was not successful in the Democratic primary in my bid to be the next Kittitas County Commissioner, but I sure came close! I lost to Dale Hubbard by 27 votes.

The fact that I came so close to winning is thanks to the tremendous outpouring of support I received from all of you! We had a strong message and I was a strong candidate, but I could not overcome the lead Dale had by starting his campaign earlier. I am proud of the positive, intelligent campaign we ran and just cannot thank you all enough. Whether you donated time or money, and simply sent me best wishes, your support was very much noticed and appreciated.

MoveOn.org needs immediate local logistical help!

Moveon.org is attempting an unprecedented phonebanking campaign microtargeting the 30 most competetive congressional districts in the country (Call for Change). We are opening 40 offices this week and are having a lot of trouble finding a space in Bellevue, Washington! It is of the utmost importance that we seal a place asap to ensure a successful campaign. What we need: (in Bellevue)600ft2+, 24/7 access, good cell reception, and something in the $650/month range(although we are flexible on that).

Calling for 2006 endorsements

Activism | Democratic Party | DFA | Local election | Progressive Infrastructure | State election

Dear Democracy for Washington Members:

It's time again for DFW to endorse quality candidates in our state that reflect our progressive ideals. We want your input. Please post YOUR choice for endorsements (no more than 3 suggestions per person, please!) here on the DFW website, or e-mail to McKenna at: McKennaHartman@yahoo.com. DFW's executive board will then meet and narrow down our endorsements to a handful of candidates.

The Wake up Walmart tour is coming to Seattle! Actually, we're the end of the line, and they're planning a big event at Seattle's Town Hall. Interested in attending? Well, you're in luck. I was just contacted by Steve Lancing from UFCW Local 21, and he would like DFW's help promoting the end point of the Wake up Walmart Bus Tour. He has 50 tickets for DFA supporters in Washington.
