New music from Chris

I just posted this comment from Howard Roark, but since it's in the Faith Hill queue, I thought I'd liberate it and repost it in its own right:

Ken, I assume you are all over this, but Daughtry is streaming their debut single on their myspace page, along with previews of some other songs. It's very Nickleback-esque, and I mean that in a good way.

Howard, clearly I wasn't all over it (big Faith controversy raging not only here but in the Listen Up blog, with about triple the volume (and venom) the discussion here has, so I've been pretty much a one-trick poster today), so thanks for the tip.

I was not a fan when he was on the show, but I have to admit that he does sound very good. Way to go Chris!

For what it is (Nickelback-esque is spot-on), it is very, very good. I think Chris is very talented, but I was one of those viewers who was pretty much "over" him after he sang a Creed song (because you can't be a "rocker" and then play Creed...it just doesn't work...EVER), that said, I'm sure he will be very successful. My only concern, listening to the single and the previews for the other songs ("Over You" was the best of the lot), is that it may be a little too five-years ago, in modern-rock terms. I mean, honestly, if I didn't know it was all new stuff, I would have had no problem believing the single was a cut off of an album released in 2001 or 2002. Mainstream-rock stations will still be all over it, but if he wants Modern Rock acceptance, I hope the rest of the albums is a little more "30 Seconds to Mars" and a lot less "Hoobastank."

Chris surely has a terrific recording voice! i like all the previews of his songs. it has the mainstreama songs that could definitely cross-over and would please the general crowd but it also has some hard rock that would make you head band and have a good, old rock and roll feeling.

Chris sounds FANTASTIC! He really does have a great recording voice.

I really like the 4 mainstream rock songs on Chris' myspace page. I agree that they are Nickelback-esque but they sound great and thus will get a lot of air play on radio stations that play Nickelback.

Ken, you were concerned about rock radio being snobs and not playing Chris' music. I think that radio stations who play Nickelback will play DAUGHTRY music whether they are pop radio or rock radio.

No worries...

Chris' website is up and running, also - daughtryofficial.com. Just for the record, what happened to the "angst"? His new songs are all quite pleasant, but that wasn't really the sound I was expecting.

Love his voice and can't wait to buy the CD on 11/21.

Sorry I don't like it...way too much "goat" in his voice. He should try and quell that. To me Chris has no story, no charisma, and a very common singing style. Very boring.

Lori...did you not watch American Idol 5. Chris is VERY original and authentic. Guess you just don't know music. LOVE the song...Can't wait for the CD. It's gonna be awesome....more so than any other Idol's from season 5. WOO!

Lori,

Did you even listen to any of the songs? There was no "goat" in his voice.

Posted by: Brandon | Nov 9, 2006 7:49:35 AM

maybe that "goat" is the thing that i love in his voice.
