February 6, Coslet Named Head Coach
At the conclusion of his detailed search, Dick Steinberg decided on former Cincinnati offensive coordinator Bruce Coslet as the eighth full-time head coach in club history. (Feb. 6).
September 9, Uniform Change
For the fourth time in club history, and third in Jet annals, the Jets changed their uniform design. The team added a third color, black, to accent the green and white and altered the road uniform by adding green pants. (Sept. 9).
September 16, First Win
The Jets registered their first win in the Steinberg/Coslet era in their home debut with a 24-21 win over Cleveland. (Sept. 16).
November 4, Record Return
Rookie WR-KR Terance Mathis tied an NFL record shared by three others when he returned a punt 98 yards for a TD in a 24-9 win over Dallas. (Nov. 4).
December 30, Jets End Season on Upswing
The Jets wrap up the season with wins over New England and Tampa Bay to finish at 6-10. Pat Leahy was voted MVP by his teammates and finished the season with a team-high 101 points and a career total of 1,362 to move into the number seven spot in NFL history.
