What differentiates Justisse-Healthworks from other organizations that provide fertility awareness training? top ↑

Justisse-Healthworks operates solely within a secular context and does not adhere to any religious directives concerning sexual and reproductive health and rights. We support the tenets of feminism, non-violent communication, and reproductive freedom.

The Justisse Method applies fertility awareness principles and knowledge in response to individual need with respect to choice of fertility signs observed and charted. Cervical mucus secretions can be charted alone or in combination with basal body temperature, cervical changes, and/or other secondary fertility signs.

The Justisse Method supports:

the use of barrier methods for protection from sexually transmitted infections
the use of barrier methods for protection for birth control during the fertile period if the user wishes to do so
alternative forms of sexual expression other than intercourse
the use of emergency contraception
the choice of abortion in the event of an unintended pregnancy

Justisse-Healthworks makes its services available to all women for the purposes of birth control, pregnancy achievement, body awareness, psychological healing and holistic reproductive health counselling.

Justisse-Healthworks respects the tradition of "women teaching women" begun by Lynne Billings, one of the leading experts in the natural family planning movement and co-founder of the Billings Ovulation Method. We consider women teaching women (and/or couples) to be the best way for women to acquire the skill of fertility awareness.

About Geraldine Matus, Founder of Justisse-Healthworks

Since 1978, Geraldine Matus has worked as a holistic reproductive health care practitioner. In 1987, she and Elaine Matus developed the Justisse Method. At the same time they developed the Justisse Method for Fertility Management Practitioner (FMP) Training Program. In 2004 Ms. Matus extensively redesigned this program to become the Holistic Reproductive Health Practitioner (HRHP) Training Program.

Ms. Matus has trained in the Billings Ovulation, Serena, and Creighton Methods of Natural Family Planning (NFP). This training informed the development of the secular based Justisse Method that brings together her extensive knowledge of fertility awareness, natural birth control, contraceptive use and sexual and reproductive health and choice. She has also trained volunteers for and worked with Planned Parenthood Edmonton.

Ms. Matus trained and practiced as a midwife from 1982 to 1986, and was involved in the "home birth" and "reproductive freedom" movements during the 70’s and 80’s. She completed her BA at Athabasca University, Canada, and MA Counselling Psychology at Pacifica Graduate Institute, California.

Ms. Matus integrates her knowledge of reproductive health with her training in Counseling Psychology and special interest in Archetypal and Imaginal Psychology to help women honour both their reproductive bodies and selves and their individual reproductive choices.
