THREAT SIGNAL

Just days before the release of their debut album Under Reprisal on Nuclear Blast Records, Canadian metal hopefuls THREAT SIGNAL have launched a self-produced video for the song "Counterbalance". The clip features footage of the band on the road, in the studio with producer Christian Olde Wolbers of Fear Factory, snippets from the "Rational Eyes" production video shoot, and plenty of live footage from North American shows as well as the band's recent appearance at Germany's Earthshaker Festival. The new video was shot and put together by the band and their crew themselves and can be seen at this location!

Meanwhile THREAT SIGNAL are boiling with excitement about the Under Reprisal North American release this Tuesday, August 22nd and the chance to play Earthshaker. Vocalist Jon Howard speaks from his home in Hamilton, Ontario..."Ever since I was a kid I've dreamed of releasing an album, and next week that dream becomes a reality. Words cannot describe the excitement! Under Reprisal has been released in Europe for a few months now, and has been doing great. However now it is being released on our home turf, and we'll actually get to see our album in stores, our video played, and even hear our music on the radio, it's a trip. Playing the Earthshaker Fest was just completely ridiculous. They treated us like fuckin rock stars. We played on a gigantic stage where we could actually move around, and to thousands of people who most of them knew who we were! Germany rules!"

THREAT SIGNAL will hit the road in October 5th for a five-week North American tour supporting Soilwork, Darkest Hour and Mnemic, sponsored by Decibel Magazine. "I've always been a huge fan of Soilwork, and our band is actually influenced by Soilwork," admits Howard. "I must have seen that band perform at least 5 times last year, and every show I was wishing we could open for them, now we are. Watch out for THREAT SIGNAL boys!"
The entire list of dates can be found at www.threatsignal.com or here. The band's Ecard includes full bio, tour dates, downloads and the entire "Rational Eyes" video.

BLIND GUARDIAN

BLIND GUARDIAN members Hansi Kürsch and André Olbrich will host a listening party for their new album, A Twist In The Myth, at Lit Lounge (93 Second Avenue - between 5th & 6th Streets) in New York City on Monday, August 21st. Scheduled for North American release on September 5th, A Twist In The Myth will be played in its entirety on the Main Floor between 9 and 11 p.m. A 21 & over event, admission is FREE and 33" x 23" posters will be distributed to all fans in attendance.

To celebrate BLIND GUARDIAN's first studio album in four years plus their upcoming, second-ever North American tour (set to launch on November 8th with Leaves Eyes), Nuclear Blast Records has teamed up with Gibson Guitars to give away a black Les Paul autographed by the band members. Enter the contest by clicking on the following link: Deadline for entries is November 30th, 2006.

The band recently completed a video for "Another Stranger Me." When asked why the band chose that particular track, vocalist Hansi Kürsch responds:

"Because it's a very unusual song for BLIND GUARDIAN. It has a very vivid power and it's very straightforward. This song is about a schizophrenic person who discovers his multiple 'eyes' and tries to find a way out. We try to transfer this to the detective [character] who just figured that he's being hunted by several very vigilant persons and he tries to get out of that desperate situation. The other selves, the other 'eyes' in the story, they are very vicious and do not have any intentions to live on a peaceful status with the detective. They're just fooling him and trying to make him a lunatic - which he is already."

The video can be viewed at this location:

Greatly inspired by life experience, world myths, and legends, BLIND GUARDIAN was founded in 1984 in Krefeld, Germany. Known for combining majestic orchestral sequences with quieter, Renaissance-styled acoustic arrangements, the merits of their emotion-packed music quickly spread via word-of-mouth and laid the foundation for a very rabid fan base that has continued to support the band throughout their career. This year alone, BLIND GUARDIAN's "Fly" single charted #1 in Japan, #4 in Spain & Hungary, #29 in Sweden, #32 in Germany, #34 in Italy, #52 in Austria, and #94 in Switzerland. Selling over one million copies of their discography worldwide, it's no surprise that BLIND GUARDIAN has been crowned one of the most successful bands in the modern power metal movement.

CHROME DIVISION

When your soul resides in the devil's left hand, you're destined for a life in rock 'n' roll.

Back in 1999 while Norway's Dimmu Borgir were in pre-production for the album Spiritual Black Dimensions, Shagrath and Nagash (then a member of the band) got together for a jam session after rehearsals to let out another type of creative steam. With Shagrath on guitar and Nagash (now aka Lex Icon) on drums, miles of ideas and riffs were recorded on tape, but the project had to be put on ice due to the priorities to their main bands - namely, Dimmu Borgir and The Kovenant.

Years later, the guys met up again and in the summer of 2004, Shagrath called long-time friend and bass player Björn Luna (Ashes To Ashes), invited him to come over, drink some beer, and jam to some bad-ass rock 'n' roll. Suddenly, a trio took shape and CHROME DIVISION was born. But who in the hell was going to meet their demands for an in-your-face vocalist? Luna contacted Eddie Guz (The Carburetors), and just like a pair of snake eyes in a winner-take-all back-alley gambling ring, he fit like a red-stained leather glove. All that was left was to add some extra spice; thus, lead guitarist Ricky Black was dragged in a day after starting a local bar fight.

Armed with a self-governing bandito-inspired attitude, these doomsday rockers spewed forth some dirty, stripped down, quality rock 'n' roll. Lex soon had to bow out but was quickly replaced by drummer Tony White (Minas Tirith), and the smell of burning rubber soon erupted from CHROME DIVISION's rehearsal space. The results would make fans of Motörhead and Black Label Society proud.

Co-produced by Björn Bergersen, Norway's newest gang entered Panzer Studio in Oslo to lay down ball-breaking songs such as "Serial Killers," "When The Shit Hits The Fan," and the anthemic "Chrome Division."

Since biker metal is born from the roots of everything that's truly rock 'n' roll, it should come as no surprise that the proud mantra for these leather-clad motorcycling warlords is "Booze, Broads, and Beelzebub." Doubt it? Be sure to check out the video for "Serial Killers," shot by Patrick Ullaeus (DIMMU BORGIR, In Flames) in Gothenburg, Sweden here: It boasts an appearance by none other than DIMMU's Silenoz.

Being born under a bad sign doesn't mean you're doomed to a life of being misunderstood. Booze it up, play this loud, invite your friends over, and raise hell!

EDGUY

Germany's favorite feel-good melodic power glam band has returned home after performing at Germany's Earthshaker Festival and the Metalway Festival in Spain.

"It was a great weekend and despite the fact that Tobias had a throat infection, the concerts went really well and the band was very happy with the reactions," states the band on their official website. "Due to a [labor] strike by the ground staff working for - to quote Tobias - 'in my opinion, the worst airline in the civilized world - Iberia," the band almost didn't make it to Gernika on time. However, in Gernika, Helloween bass player Markus Grosskopf joined the five EDGUYs on stage for a highly acclaimed version of 'Avantasia.' EDGUY wanna say thank you to everybody (with the exception of Iberia Airlines) and say sorry for the wrecked dressing room in Jerez. Your next chance to see the band will be in Busan, Korea."

GOREFEST

An update from GOREFEST guitarist Frank Harthoorn:

"[Two weekends ago] we found ourselves hot, sweaty, sticky and steaming. And we weren't even naked! On Friday [July 21st], we had an early show at this year's sweltering Earthshaker Fest near Nurnberg, Germany. I think we went down pretty well, though I couldn't see much due to this huge fan on the side of the stage constantly blowing smoke and hair in my face. I mean, really, where did they find this thing, at Heinkel & Messerschmitt's? Good to see most of the Nuclear Blast crew enjoying themselves here, including NB America. As for the bands, I was most impressed by ONE MAN ARMY [& THE UNDEAD QUARTET], who I heard good things about, but who really surprised me. Also great to see Arch Enemy for a second time in a couple of weeks, can't go wrong there. I heard Saxon were awesome too, but sadly I had to skip them in favour of some much needed sleep.

Sunday had us appearing at Metal Camp in Tolmin, Slovenia. The relatively short 6-hour drive had us in high spirits, especially when we heard it had taken a band like Caliban 15 hours to get through the Alps. I guess our driver knew some serious shortcuts. Metal Camp is held in Tolmin, smack in the middle of the mountains. This makes for some great scenery and also some slightly unstable weather. It had been sunny all day, but whaddayaknow, 2 minutes before we're on, it starts to rain. Not that this matters much to us; we're from the Netherlands, and rain is our #1 export product. So we went on like the troopers we are, and had ourselves one of our best shows in recent GOREFEST history. Yes, the metal flowed freely, and I'm glad we got to play to so many different nationalities here. Some people had been waiting for 15 years to see us, so it's double their pleasure to find us on one of our better days.

Kudos to our trusty crew for getting us out there in what must have been a really gruelling weekend for them, what with doing multiple bands on different festivals. Special mention this time goes out to tour mistress Naomi, whose blessings are many. Not only do we always have the hottest chick on site at our beck and call, she also knows how to take care of things, and lift the more unpleasant stuff off our backs. Excellent job, woman!"
GRAVEWORM

ONE MAN ARMY AND THE UNDEAD QUARTET

An update from OMA&TUQ frontman, Johan Lindstrand:

"The Army feels stronger than ever now. After all these live shows around Europe these recent months, we have a big confidence in ourselves.

The touring cycle for 21st Century Killing Machine is coming to an end and we're ready to hit the studio with 10 new tracks. Yeah, we'll hit Deadline Studio in October and hopefully there will be a lot of great touring next year as well to promote the new album. The K-Machine... album has gone real good for being a debut, and I think that a lot of people are looking forward to a good follow-up to that album. Can't name any titles yet, but in a month or so we will hit you with some major news. The thing with this band is that we work harder and harder to make it the great force it deserves to be. I mean, what can possibly come after the Killing Machine? TOTAL WIPEOUT!!!!!!!"
SCAR SYMMETRY

Seasoned professionals who save their bouts of drunken debauchery for AFTER their performances, Sweden's SCAR SYMMETRY made a killing onstage at the Earthshaker Festival in Rieden, Germany and then rampaged through the backstage area seeking innocent victims to view the home-made videos they had stored in their camera phones. While the visual-assault victims had to pledge an oath of eternal silence after viewing the films, the mood quickly lightened when the game of "What is our bassist Kenneth Seil saying?" began. Known for lapsing into an incoherent mix of Swedish, English, and Swenglish, Kenneth proved his thorough knowledge of dying & unknown languages to everyone within earshot while encouraging guitarist Jonas Kjellgren to pursue a career in stand-up comedy and openly musing over seeking his own fortune & fame as a language consultant in Hollywood...

Last week we learned that the video for "Rational Eyes" (directed by by David Brodsky of Shadows Fall and Trivium fame) was an alarming #6 on the Music Choice Metal Videos On Command behind Shadows Fall, Stone Sour, Slayer, Strapping Young Lad and All That Remains! Check out the list at this location!
Early online opinions:

"The songwriting is crisp, complex and really showcases the talent of every member with catchy hooks, thrash beats, melodic vocals, screams and driving guitar solo's all put together in one nice package." (The Great Nothing)
"Now I must say that Threat Signal is a prime leader for the new wave of metalcore. The band is all about precision, and the razor's edge that their guitar and bass lines walk along with perfectly timed blast beats prove it." (BlackAngelPromotions)
IMMORTAL

This is the Black Metal sensation of the year: the organizers of the Wacken Open Air just announced that IMMORTAL will play at the festival in 2007. The trio which disbanded in 2003 will return in the line up Abbath / Horgh plus special guests. The band had the following to say about these more than excellent news: "IMMORTAL are proud to announce that we will headline Wacken in 2007. This will be part of a few selected exclusive shows next year, and Wacken will be the only show in Germany. Abbath, Horgh, Demonaz."

SONIC SYNDICATE

The winner of the Nuclear Blast Bandcontest is finally found!
Flashback: In the late summer of 2005, Nuclear Blast called up a giant competition, the so-called "Bandcontest". In curtly six months bands from all over the world should send in their music, evaluated by a Jury consisting of NUCLEAR BLAST and the following presentators:
METAL HAMMER GERMANY, METAL HAMMER SPAIN, METAL HAMMER ITALY, ROCK HARD FRANCE, INFERO FINLAND, SCREAM NORWAY and CLOSE UP SWEDEN
The result: More than 1.500 candidacies arrived in Donzdorf! Months of listening to demos in front of the stereo and endless discussions followed. Now, half a year later - the winners are chosen! We are proud to present you SONIC SYNDICATE from Falkenberg/Sweden! The six musicians (on average 20 years young!) come out on top of the competitors.

"We´re proud to have filtrated such a killer band out of more than 1.500 candidacies! The perfect mixture of heavyness, melodies and the factor X!" - Markus Staiger, President of NUCLEAR BLAST

BLEED THE SKY

Having recovered from a diagnosis of severe pneumonia compounded by an unknown viral infection, BLEED THE SKY guitarist Wayne Miller is now at home in California and his band mates have re-joined the Dope tour as a four-piece.

Following his June 18th performance in Louisville, Kentucky, Miller was rushed to a nearby hospital with a high fever. Encouraging his bandmates to continue with the tour, Miller stayed behind, but his condition worsened. After his admission into the Intensive Care Unit, family members flew out from California and BLEED THE SKY dropped off the Dope tour two nights later to drive 15 hours to be by his side. It appears this outpouring of moral support greatly aided Miller's recovery.

"You're not gonna believe what the second thing was that Wayne said after he got off the respirator," reported BLEED THE SKY bassist Daylen 'Disco' Elsey with relieved laughter. "Well, the first thing he said was, 'I'm really tired.' The second thing he said was, 'So what are we gonna do about the two shows that we missed?' Can you believe that?! [laughter] The guy almost dies and he's worried about the shows he missed!"

"We're trying to keep the dying to a minimum on this tour," joked BLEED THE SKY guitarist Kyle Moorman.

"We all took shifts watching him," continued Elsey. "He kept trying to take the tubes out of this nose, but we wouldn't let him. For some crazy reason, he thought we were gonna kick him out of the band 'cause he got sick. Yeah, right. We're gonna finish out the tour with Kyle covering all the guitar work 'cause we know he wants us to, but there's no way he's outta the band. He's irreplaceable."

States the band, "We really wanna thank everyone for their support through this whole situation. The online posts, the text messages, the phone calls. They all helped us stay positive for Wayne."

CHROME DIVISION

Norwegian Biker Metal is born from the roots of everything that's truly rock 'n' roll, so it should come as no surprise that the proud mantra for these leather-clad motorcycling warlords is "Booze, Broads, and Belzebub."

In the current September issue of Metal Maniacs magazine, journalist Ian Christe details his trip to a basement rock bar in Oslo, Norway where he interviewed CHROME DIVISION bassist Björn Luna, guitarist Ricky Black, and drummer Tony White about their upcoming debut album, Doomsday Rock 'N Roll. Recorded at Panzer Studio in Oslo, Norway, the custom chopper staff was rounded out by Eddie Guz on vocals and DIMMU BORGIR's Shagrath on rhythm guitar.

States Luna: "It was a bit long for a rock album. It's 45 minutes. It could have been 35, but we have to show that we have a lot of ideas. Our lyrical approach is basically just sex, drugs, and rock 'n' roll. Not so much drugs, either. Basically it's sex and rock 'n' roll."

Doomsday Rock 'N Roll will be released in North America on August 8th. To help pass the time until then, click on the video link below to see what the CHROME DIVISION "Serial Killers" have been up to. Filmed in Gothenburg, Sweden by Patric Ullaeus (DIMMU BORGIR, In Flames), the video even boasts an appearance by DIMMU BORGIR's Silenoz!

CLAWFINGER

World Cup Soccer fever has no remedy... except maybe music.

"It all started off in February/March sometime when we were asked by an old friend of Bård's [Torstensen, guitarist] to write a song for the World Soccer Championships and for their mascot Goleo," writes CLAWFINGER vocalist Zak Tell. "We were excited about even being considered to participate, but at the same time, we knew they would want something way more commercial than we were able to do or willing to make! We simply did it our way, which is the only way we know how, and we had a great time during the process! In the end, a football song is always tacky no matter how much you try to make it into a serious & tasteful track. After all, you want that football hooligan vibe somewhere in the mix, lyrics about winning, glory, and all that fantastic stuff plus a sing-a-long chorus! So this is what we came up with one late evening in the studio - The Unofficial Super Smash Hit For The World Soccer Championships 2006. We hope you enjoy it. Feel free to play it loud while watching the World Cup and drinking beer, All The Way!"

"All The Way" is available for download on CLAWFINGER's official website.
Be sure to check out an interview with Bård Torstensen in the debut issue of Hails & Horns magazine!
COMMUNIC

"The best bands take the listener on a journey, one that is full of surprises and not soon forgotten. Such as the case with COMMUNIC. The Norwegians have found their groove and will undoubtedly continue churning out timeless releases." - Blabbermouth.net

An update from COMMUNIC vocalist/guitarist Oddleif Stensland:
"We've decided to make a little tour out of the trip COMMUNIC will be doing for the ProgPower Festival in Holland on October 1st. The tour will run through Denmark, Holland, Switzerland, as well as 7 gigs in Germany and we've asked labelmates SCAR SYMMETRY to join us for the tour. SCAR SYMMETRY just released their second album, Pitch Black Progress, and it's been really well-received around the metal scene, which is why we've chosen these Swedish guys to tag along for a good 10 days of fun and rock 'n' roll. We are very much looking forward to coming out and meeting our loyal supporters, and to bring 'Waves of Pitch Black Decay' over Europe!"

Waves Of Visual Decay was released in North America on June 27th.

DARKANE

DARKANE guitarist Christofer Malmström provides us with some interesting band news involving animals:

"Some time ago a touring horse-and-elephant show asked us for permission to use our song 'The Creation Insane' [from the 2005 album, Layers Of Lies] in their show. We said yes, and when they hit our hometown, Jörgen [Löfberg, bassist], Peter [Wildoer, drummer], and I went to see it. It was quite amazing! One hour or something into their set, two guys covered with leather entered on one horse each while DARKANE's 'The Creation Insane' was played loud from the speakers. The horsemen did all kinds of rodeo tricks - jumping on and off the horse while it was running, standing on their arms on the horses' backs... the kids in the audience went ballistic, and I thought it was cool too, but at the same time I laughed at myself since this was not what I had in mind when I wrote the song with Peter AT ALL!!! Sometimes things don't turn out the way it was planned."
DIMMU BORGIR

A DIMMU BORGIR update from guitarist/songwriter Silenoz:

"Hmmm... World Cup, let's see. Norway didn't even qualify this time, so my hopes are always with Brazil, but since they also went out, now there's no other team I care about that are left in the tournament. The recent video I'm featured in (apart from a small appearance in the new CHROME DIVISION video) is not for sale or public viewing. Our first show this year is in two weeks [Battle of Metal Festival in Germany on July 21st]. I'll tell you all about the insanity later. We're busy writing for the new album, so no vacation for us! Scheduled to start recording in October with Fredrick Nordström in Fredman Studios in Gothenburg for a release early next year. I can also inform you that DIMMU BORGIR are proudly endorsed by ESP Guitars!"

Drumming on the as-yet-untitled work in progress will be handled by Hellhammer of Mayhem fame, so expect nothing less than a pitch black masterpiece as the successor to 2003's Death Cult Armageddon.

The video for "Sorgens Kammer: Del II" is available for streaming at Billboard.com under the "New Hard Rock" category!
EDGUY

"Some people think heavy metal and humor don't go together. Guess they never saw Spinal Tap," chides EDGUY frontman Tobias Sammet in his interview with journalist Mark Gromen of Metal Maniacs. "I think you have to have a good sense of humor to play heavy metal. As much as I appreciate the music, and for as many metal records I have in my collection (which is basically 98% metal), there is some ridiculous side to heavy metal/hard rock music. If you make fun of something you don't do personally, you're arrogant. If you poke fun at something you do, that's the best! We don't hide behind the façade of humor. It's something natural that comes along with the serious ingredients in our music. It's what prevents us from being a parody."

To read the entire interview, pick up the latest copy (September Issue) of Metal Maniacs.

EDGUY will be performing at the Bloodstock Open Air, Masters Of Rock, Earthshaker, Metal Camp, and Metalway festivals throughout Europe this July.
EXODUS

"They will be plenty of time to rest when I'm dead," states drummer Paul "I Dream in Double-Bass" Bostaph, who has just returned from a European trek with EXODUS only to be recruited to cover Louie Clemente's drum duties with Bay Area veteran thrashers Testament.

"I'm stoked to hit the road with the Testament guys, especially since I've never played with Alex Skolnic before. It's as close to the original line-up as possible and I've always had fun with them. This time should be no different. I'm honored they gave me a call. I had some free time while EXODUS is gearing up for another assault, so the timing worked out well. I wish [original drummer] Louie [Clemente] the best and hope he's back in the saddle soon. See you on the road!"

GOREFEST

The 'Fest have been a busy bunch these last few weeks:

"We'd been asked to fill in for Deicide on the Nummirock festival in Finland two weeks ago, an invite we gladly accepted since we'd never been there before. Nummirock is held at a site somewhere in the Finnish woods, a hot and cramped four-and-a-half-hour drive from Helsinki Airport. The gig was cool, the food was crap, the people were drunk, the sun set for about half a minute, and then came right back up again. All was well in Finland, and we hope to get back in the near future to do some club shows. You just gotta love a country where moose walk in the mist, where everyone seems to have their own private lake, and where people wander about the highways naked and drunk at four in the morning."

For more reflections on GOREFEST's latest festival appearances, visit the band's official website.
GRAVEWORM

"It was a really great tour for us and we had a LOT of fun. A GREAT experience," writes GRAVEWORM singer Stefan Fiori. "Thanks to all our fans for coming to the shows, thanks to the bands, Maurizio of KATAKLYSM, and all the people who made this tour possible."

After scrambling to find sports bars that televised soccer while on the road through North America for the first time with the Metal Crusaders Tour, the Italian national team eventually beat Germany to advance to the finals in World Cup Soccer. What does Stefan have to say about this?

"Haha... Poor Destruction... hehe. Who cares? WE are in the finals and we will BEAT France to get the title."

HAMMERFALL

What exactly goes on at a studio when a band goes in to record a new album?
"We've been watching Trigger Happy TV & Triumph the Insult Comic Dog and drinking beer tonight," writes in HAMMERFALL guitarist Oscar Dronjak as he takes a break from working on the follow-up to 2005's Chapter V: Unbent, Unbowed, Unbroken. "It's nearing the end of the recordings now so we're celebrating a bit. Our goal was to get as heavy and energetic production as we had on the previous albums, but to improve it and the performance even more. Musically, we built on the foundation of our previous work and developed the sound, and perhaps brought back some of the speed - without losing the heaviness and the groove, of course. We will do 'The Fire Burns Forever' - the song we recorded a video for with the Swedish athletics a couple of weeks back - at the Earthshaker fest [in Kreuth, Germany, July 20th - 22nd]. We're also going to bust out a few songs we haven't done in a while, just for fun."
Other song titles set to appear on the new HAMMERFALL album include: "Carved In Stone," "Titan," "Dark Wings, Dark Words," "Shadow Empire," "Rebel Inside," "Threshold," "The Fire Burns Forever," "Howlin' With The Pac," and "Natural High."
HYPOCRISY

When your goal is a calculated sonic assault upon every major city in the U.S. and Canada, there are few stategists who can ensure victory in battle.
Armed with the reputation of their punishing live shows, an album that ranked in as one of the Top Albums of 2005, and the wisdom of a fifteen-year career, it's no surprise that HYPOCRISY's tried-and-true methodology for devastation has been drafted for the upcoming Machines At War tour with L.A.'s Fear Factory, New York's Suffocation, and Poland's Decapitated - set to launch in San Francisco this October 26th.
Hailing from Sweden and praised by Guitar One Magazine for "cramming maximum hurt into each track" on their latest release, Virus, The Machines At War North American tour is more significant to singer/songwriter/guitarist/producer Peter Tägtgren than most can imagine.
"Fear Factory are close to our hearts," reveals Tägtgren from his small village home. "Soul Of A New Machine was the influence for me to start my other project, Pain. What people don't realize is that the first tour HYPOCRISY ever did back in 1993 was with them and Cannibal Corpse in Europe. They've really done a lot for us to make this tour possible, so yeah, we're looking forward to giving everything we've got while we're up on stage. It doesn't matter if there are 50, 200, or 500 people in the audience. We're ready to give everything every night."
With four savage bands, forty fated shows, and thirty-nine doomed cities, ground zero will soon be arriving at your backdoor. "When doing battle," cited Sun-tzu centuries ago in his book The Art Of War, "seek a quick victory." The conquests that await HYPOCRISY in the mosh pits will be stained with just enough blood to ensure that their mission to annihilate is complete.

BLEED THE SKY

HOSPITALIZED BLEED THE SKY MEMBER RECOVERS; BAND RE-JOINS DOPE TOUR
Having recovered from a diagnosis of severe pneumonia compounded by an unknown viral infection, BLEED THE SKY guitarist Wayne Miller is in stable enough condition for his band mates to re-join the Dope tour on June 30th in Philadelphia. They will be performing as a four-piece.
"We're trying to keep the dying to a minimum on this tour," joked BLEED THE SKY guitarist Kyle Moorman.

We're gonna finish out the tour with Kyle covering all the guitar work 'cause we know he wants us to, but there's no way he's outta the band. He's irreplaceable."

With Miller now in stable condition, the four-piece BLEED THE SKY will play the remaining 22 shows on the Jagermeister-sponsored Summer Of Sin Tour headlined by Dope.
States the band, "We really wanna thank everyone for their support through this whole situation. The online posts, the text messages, the phone calls. They all helped us stay positive for Wayne."

MNEMIC

"Finally after 2 weeks of rehearsals and pre-production we've started tracking the drums with Warren Riker and Christian Olde Wolbers in North Hollywood. We've been really busy working on 13 brand new songs that kick ass, and along with new singer Guillaume Bideau (ex-Scarve) this marks a new era for the band. Things are sounding great and we are just getting started!"

That's the latest news directly from our favorite Danes in MNEMIC, the recording is underway and things are great! Recording is taking place at Track Record Studios (Kiss, Megadeth, Aerosmith) and will finish up towards the end of July. As recently reported the band employed the writing talents of guitarist/producer Roy Z. for one song that will surface on MNEMIC's upcoming album. The talented guitarist/songwriter for Tribe Of Gypsies and heralded producer of such recent metal classics as Bruce Dickinson's Chemical Wedding, Rob Halford's Resurrection and Judas Priest's Angel Of Retribution, Z. collaborated on guitar recently with MNEMIC while they finished writing material for the third album, due out in early 2007

DON'T MISS THE BAND ON TOUR WITH SOILWORK, Darkest Hour, and THREAT SIGNAL in North America this October/November, they'll be sure to play at least one or two new songs before the album is released!

MNEMIC

MNEMIC Begin Tracking New Album
The Danish Metal Machine MNEMIC have begun recording their yet-to-be-titled third album for Nuclear Blast Records in Los Angeles. Production is being handled by Christian Olde Wolbers (Fear Factory, Threat Signal) as well as new addition Warren Riker (Down, Cathedral, The Fugees) who began tracking the band at Track Record Studios (Kiss, Megadeth, Aerosmith) this past weekend. The band had this to say, "Finally after 2 weeks of rehearsals and pre-production we've started tracking the drums with Warren Riker and Christian Olde Wolbers in North Hollywood. We've been really busy working on 13 brand new songs that kick ass, and along with new singer Guillaume Bideau (ex-Scarve) this marks a new era for the band. Things are sounding great and we are just getting started!"
This marks the first time that MNEMIC have done pre-production and recording in America and the second production project of Olde Wolbers for Nuclear Blast as he recently turned the knobs for Threat Signal's debut Under Reprisal (due out August 22nd in North America). He commented recently, "I'm honored to get the opportunity to work with MNEMIC, and I am actually a fan of the band."
The follow-up to 2004's The Audio Injected Soul, MNEMIC's new album is due out in early 2007.
THREAT SIGNAL

Due to scheduling conflicts, Canuck thrash legends Razor will not be able to perform at the July 8th fundraising show for the Heavy Metal Music Association of Canada at The Marquee (280 Coxwell St) in Toronto, ON. They have been replaced by rising Canadian stars THREAT SIGNAL who release their Nuclear Blast Records debut, Under Reprisal, on August 22nd. Also appearing on the bill are TRIPCHORD. As previously reported, this show will be filmed as a pilot for a metal TV show Metal On Metal hosted by HMMAC CEO Ray "Black Metal" Wallace. The show is described as a "Heavy Metal version of Soul Train", based on Canadian acts with audience participation in Metal Mental Meltdown Trivia where fans can win prizes based on answering questions from the Heavy Metal board game of the same name.
HAMMERFALL

HAMMERFALL recently entered the studio to begin recording the follow-up to 2005's “Chapter V: Unbent, Unbowed, Unbroken”.

The album will be released on October 20th, through Nuclear Blast Records, with a single release on the track “Natural High” available on September, 22nd.
Other song titles on the album include "Carved In Stone," "Titan," "Dark Wings, Dark Words," "Shadow Empire," "Rebel Inside," "Threshold, "Howlin' With The Pac," and "The Fire Burns Forever”. Guitar player and main songwriter Oscar Dronjak comments: “Our goal was to get as heavy and energetic a production as we had on the previous albums, but to improve it and the performance even more. Musically, we built on the foundation of our previous work and developed the sound, and perhaps brought back some of the speed. Without losing the heaviness and the groove, of course. HammerFall is, and always will be, a Heavy Metal band."
Everyone who will visit this years Earthshaker Festival (www.earthshaker-fest.de) will get the chance to listen to one of those new tracks live. Says Oscar: “We will do "The Fire Burns Forever", the song we recorded a video together with the Swedish athletics a couple of weeks back. As far as I know, it will be available for download during August only, so it will be in promotion for that. We're also going to bust out a few songs we haven't done in a while, just for fun.”
Don’t miss it!

DIMMU BORGIR

"DIMMU BORGIR guitarist Silenoz just checked in to enlighten all the fans of Norwegian Black Metal with some news regarding the upcoming album and a brand new endorsement deal. "We're playing a few festivals this summer, so no vacation for us! We’re quite busy writing for the new album. Scheduled to start recording in October with Fredrik Nordström in Fredman Studios in Gothenburg, for a release early next year. I can also inform you that DIMMU BORGIR are proudly endorsed by ESP Guitars!" Drumming on the yet untitled work in progress will be Hellhammer of MAYHEM fame. We expect nothing less than a pitch black masterpiece as the successor of the brilliant and epic "Death Cult Armageddon"...
SIRENIA

"Norwegian Symphonic Goth Metal act SIRENIA are currently more than busy with their new songs. Vocalist Morten Veland (who also sings for TRISTANIA) posted the following news on the band`s official website www.tristania.com: "The song material for the upcoming CD is more or less complete; we are just working on the last details at the moment. It seems we will start the recordings by the end of July. The upcoming full-length album will consist of nine brand new SIRENIA songs — no cover songs or remix material this time." The band`s upcoming, yet untitled third album will mark the first appearance of new female singer Monika Pedersen with SIRENIA. The album will also be the band`s debut with Nuclear Blast."

DARKANE

DARKANE have confirmed their upcoming performance at the Graspop Metal Meeting festival on Friday, June 23rd in Dessel, Belgium.
HAMMERFALL

HAMMERFALL guitarist Oscar Dronjak has posted the following update on his official blog:

"The 19th European Athletics Championships are being held in Gothenburg in August, and we were going to shoot a video together with a couple of the Swedish athletes - much like we did with the curling team (who went on to win the Olympic gold medal, I might add), only with a specially written, previously unreleased track. The athletes were Robert Kronberg (110 meter hurdles), Alhaji Jeng (pole vault), Johan Wissman (200 meters) and Kajsa Bergqvist (high jump). Robert especially had been looking forward to this for a long time, apparently, and seemed to enjoy every minute of the long day. He played drums in a few takes (!), and rocked for all he was worth, as did the others. I'm sure it will be a really funny video!

The highlight of the day for me was definitely the opportunity to do a couple of high jumps. That was always my best sport in school, and I haven't tried it since then. 1.45 meters posed no problem at all, and neither did 1.55, but when I raised the bar another ten centimeters, my body said, 'You know what, brotha, even all my little Hulkamaniacs couldn't force me to get up and jump now.' (Why my body sounds like Hulk Hogan, I'll never know.). Too tired from last night's drinking and not enough sleep — that's what I told myself, at least — I could muster one proper jump but no more. Determined to clear the height later, I let it rest. For a while. After lunch, I felt ready to attack the bar again, and just barely missed. Kajsa Bergqvist, most likely the best female high jumper in the world came over to the mat. I was kind of nervous, not only because she has won virtually everything there is to win and is the current world record holder indoors (2.08 meters), but also because I've always admired her. ;-) She gave me some helpful advice, and then I tried it again. Wouldn't you know it, I practically sailed over the bar (I touched it a little, but it stayed in place)! Clearing 1.65 meters wearing stage clothes and only socks, I was quite proud of that effort! I have posted a video of one of the first jumps in the video section here on MySpace:

HAMMERFALL recently entered the studio to begin recording the follow-up to 2005's Chapter V: Unbent, Unbowed, Unbroken, tentatively due this fall. Song titles set to appear on the album include "Carved In Stone," "Titan," "Dark Wings, Dark Words," "Shadow Empire," "Rebel Inside," "Threshold," "The Fire Burns Forever," "Howlin' With The Pac," and "Natural High."

MNEMIC

As prematurely reported a few days ago, Danish Metal Machine MNEMIC have named Frenchman Guillaume Bideau (Scarve) as their new vocalist. The band recently commented on the news and their enthusiasm over the decision.

"As you've probably heard from other sources, the new singer of MNEMIC is Guillaume Bideau from Scarve. Now it's official, and it's official when we say its official. Guillaume impressed us in the rehearsal and in the studio. First off he nailed the old songs 110%, and second we did a demo one of the new songs with him, which turned out like a multilayered vocal metallic opera. He will definitely bring the sound of Mnemic to the next level and we are more than happy to have him in the band as the new frontmonster!"

A longtime member of Scarve, Bideau issued his first statement as the singer for MNEMIC hours ago on the band's website.

"I'm extremely proud and happy to be joining MNEMIC. This is definitely a big turn in my musical career and I feel more confident than ever. I was in Scarve for almost 8 years and I'm leaving this band today without any feuds between the guys and myself, they totally understand my choice and decision. Sometimes things don't go as planed unfortunately, but the band still has plenty of time to finish the new album. I really wish Scarve all the very best for the future, I know they'll move on.

MNEMIC is exactly the kind of crazy shit I was expecting to be part of! It's going to be an amazing, open minded human and musical adventure and I'll be able to be 100% myself in this band. I can't wait to join them in studio to record that damn new album! Trust me, it will be kickass!"

The band will enter Bomb Shelter Studios in downtown Los Angeles in the next couple of weeks to begin tracking for their yet-to-be-titled third album for Nuclear Blast Records, due out in early 2007. MNEMIC previous album, The Audio Injected Soul, was released by Nuclear Blast on October 5th, 2004 in North America.
BLEED THE SKY

BLEED THE SKY SECURE DOPE TOUR; FRIENDS & FAMILY CONSIDER FILING MISSING PERSONS REPORT

Some people call it a fever, others just call it a rock 'n' roll lifestyle. Having toured relentlessly in support of their debut album, Paradigm In Entropy, California's BLEED THE SKY have secured one last tour with Dope - which begins on June 13th in Grand Rapids, MI - before heading back home to work on their second album. Their friends and family haven't seen hide nor hair of them in the past six months and a few have jokingly considered filing a missing persons report.

Currently on the road with Ill Niño, God Forbid, Eyes Of Fire, and Silent Civilian through June 9th, BLEED THE SKY continue to bring their energetic road show to new audiences, winning over crowds and instantly gaining new fans - even among the bands they're touring with. When the engine in BLEED THE SKY's tour van blew, Ill Niño and Silent Civilian were quick to offer them spots on their bus and van so BLEED THE SKY didn't have to drop off the tour.

Praised for their "brutal, soul-destroying foray into the darker parts of the human mind" by OUTBURN Magazine, BLEED THE SKY's debut album, Paradigm In Entropy, seemlessly merges hardcore's brutal attitude & musical breakdowns with anthemic vocals & melodic metal guitars, following in the footsteps of Chimaira, Shadows Fall, and Lamb Of God. Chimaira guitarist Matt DeVries enthusiastically endorses BTS as "a breath of fresh air for the metal community."

To listen to "Minion" of their debut album, Paradigm In Entropy, go to: http://www.nuclearblastusa.com/download.html

Visit the band's official website at www.BLEEDTHESKY.com and www.MySpace.com/BLEEDTHESKY
COMMUNIC

COMMUNIC's new album "Waves Of Visual Decay" has entered the German Media Control Charts on #66!!!

For comparison: "Conspiracy In Mind", COMMUNIC's highly acclaimed 2005 debut didn't even make it to the German top 100. Thus a great success for our Norwegian friends!
DIMMU BORGIR

The kings of melodic Black Metal, mighty DIMMU BORGIR from Norway, were forced to cancel their appearance at Italy`s GODS OF METAL festival that takes place from June 1st to 4th. Guitarist Silenoz had the following to say in a statement on the band`s official website, www.dimmu-borgir.com: “We apologize to everyone it may concern, we were very much looking forward to play this great festival, but due to a serious situation regarding one of our members’ health condition we have no other choice as it is beyond our control. We owe it to our business partners, fans and friends and perhaps mostly ourselves, to do a great gig, but this will not be possible under the given circumstances, unfortunately. Health will always have first priority.”
ALL SHALL PERISH

Oakland's ALL SHALL PERISH have unveiled a new song entitled “Wage Slaves” from their upcoming album The Price of Existence at www.myspace.com/allshallperish. The band’s second album is set to be released Aug 8th in North America by Nuclear Blast Records and contains 11 new blistering tracks of extreme metal diversity.

The band comments: "This track is one of the more straight-forward brutal songs on the record and is sort of an ode to old school Pantera, but the whole album is packed with all kinds of songs from black metal to thrash to beat-down and even an instrumental! It's truly an epic album."

ALL SHALL PERISH are launching a mini tour next week and playing a much of the new album in preparation for the long summer tour with Suicide Silence, Light this City, Too Pure Too Die, and Nights Like These which hits almost every market in the US. Check the dates in our toursection here!
NILE

Nuclear Blast is extremely proud to announce the signing of one of the most innovative Metal bands nowadays: NILE! Mixing Egyptian tunes with technical Death Metal elements and thus creating a very unique style, NILE rank among the elite of the brutal riff league, as masterpieces like "In Their Darkened Shrines" or last year's "Annihilation Of The Wicked" impressively show.

This is what Karl Sanders (who you can see on the attached photo, signing the contract) himself has to say about the new cooperation:

"NILE is pleased to announce the recent signing of its new record deal with Nuclear Blast. We are excited about the possibilities and potential of this new partnership with the wonderful people at Nuclear Blast. We are most certainly eagerly looking forward to working on the next NILE album and to fearlessly continue bringing NILE's unique brand of Ithyphallic Brutal Death Metal to our fans. We also would like to thank Matt and Gordon and all the team at Relapse for many years of happiness working with them, we count them as our friends and comrades still and wish them all the best."

A new album of NILE is set to show up in 2007.
CHROME DIVISION

"Doomsday Rock `n` Roll over Sweden! Nuclear Blast`s recent signing CHROME DIVISION (featuring DIMMU BORGIR-vocalist Shagrath on guitar) will put the pedal to the metal and head over from Oslo to Gothenburg June 3rd and 4th. There, visual wizard Patric Ullaeus (IN FLAMES, SOILWORK) will shoot the videoclip for the track "Serial Killer". Expect nothing less than the full treatment consisiting of booze, broads and beelzebub! CHROME DIVISION´S hellish debut album "Doomsday Rock`n`Roll" will be released on July 27th."
HAMMERFALL

HAMMERFALL guitarist Oscar Dronjak has posted the following recording update on his official blog:

"There were only two songs left for today, the instrumental 'Reign Of The Hammer' and the fast triplet song 'Genocide.' Saving the hardest for last, it was instrumental time now. It's a fairly simple song, and Magnus [Rosén, bass] had learned the stops well beforehand. Being a first-timer with the pick, he had his work cut out for him, but Magnus came through beautifully. This HAMMERFALL album is going to sound more heavy metal than ever based on the pick factor alone! It sounds so much better, so much tighter, so much more ON it's ridiculous! The track was finished just in time for Magnus and me to make the departure from Lundgård in time to catch the ferry in Fredrikshavn (a three-hour drive, remember?). We'll return to Denmark on May 31st, and I will continue to keep you updated on what's going on down here."

Other song titles set to appear on HAMMERFALL's new CD include "Carved In Stone," "Titan," "Dark Wings, Dark Words," "Shadow Empire," "Rebel Inside," "Threshold," "The Fire Burns Forever," "Howlin' With The Pac," and "Natural High."
BLIND GUARDIAN

Looks like the holiday season is shaping up quite nicely for BLIND GUARDIAN fans in the U.S. and Canada: the BG camp has just announced the preliminary routing for their upcoming North American tour throughout November and December in support of their new album, A Twist In The Myth, set for a Fall 2006 release. Described by Billboard Magazine as "a larger-than-life sound which incorporates the harmonies and drama of Queen with an aggressive, modern sensibility," the BLIND GUARDIAN discography has sold over 120,000 copies in North America alone and their first-ever limited edition single debuted on the Singles Chart in 2002 by selling 5,200 copies.

Lead vocalist Hansi Kürsch checks in about the new album, the new songs, and the upcoming tour:

"As you all most probably know, we have finished the album some days ago and started doing some first shows already. With this album, I think, we have widened the range of the BLIND GUARDIAN universe more than we have ever done before. In terms of quality, we had a very good feeling during the whole recording session. Some of the new songs will be presented on the road when we will start touring. Everything and everyone is in pretty good shape. All preparations for the fall tour are on schedule and the interest in tickets for the tour is really high. One more time, we would like to thank you for your patience and can't wait to hear and see your reaction to the new songs. As soon as there are some download samples, we will let you know. Your endurance will be rewarded."

Between now and the launch of the U.S./Canadian tour, BLIND GUARDIAN will stay busy by hosting listening parties in Europe for their new album, shooting a video for "Another Stranger Me" (featuring new drummer Frederik Ehmke), and touring throughout Europe and Scandinavia in September and October.

The track listing for A Twist In The Myth is as follows:

04. Fly (5:43)

BLEED THE SKY

"This is the BEST tour we've been on!" rants BLEED THE SKY singer Noah Robinson during a rare off-day on the current Jagermeister tour with Ill Niño, God Forbid, Silent Civilian, and Eyes Of Fire, offering an update on all the antics going on on the road:

"One night, I was changing the lyrics to our songs and busting out with Lionel Richie moves onstage... it was hilarious! Our tech Checker made a patented Disco Inferno Beer Stand out of two Gatorade bottles and gaff tape. He runs out of the shadows to put a new beer in there whenever we run out [more laughter and background laughter from the other band members]. Disco [BTS member Daylen Elsey] got two new basses and he named one 'Kansas' and the other one 'Skeletor' from the He-Man cartoons. Just to keep up with him, we named our guitar rack 'Castle Greyskull'!! [more laughter] We've been having such a GREAT time on tour. Everyone's just GREAT. Cristian [Machado, Ill Niño lead vocalist] has been inviting me up for the last three shows during their 5th song to help him sing... everyone's just been AWESOME."

View photos from BTS' show at the State Theater in St. Petersburg, Florida (and catch a glimpse of the "Disco Inferno" hand-made on-stage beer holder!) here!
SOILWORK

SOILWORK vocalist Björn "Speed" Strid had the following to say recently via the band's official web site:
"Just a little update on the festivals for this summer. Some of the festivals got confirmed pretty late and we had big trouble finding flight tickets for a reasonable price for [drummer] Dirk [Verbeuren] (Dirk currently lives in L.A.). Therefore Peter Wildoer (DARKANE) will fill in for Dirk on three shows (Festimad, Piteå and Malmö). We really appreciate Peter's help and being able to step in with such short notice!
Anyways, we've never played this many festivals and it's covering up most of Europe, so whatever you do, don't miss us!!!

"We're really psyched about playing in Spain at the big Festimad festival next weekend. It's been a while since we gave our Spanish fans a fix, so it will be exciting for sure. It's of course also a great honor to be one of the headliners together with ALICE IN CHAINS... can't wait to see them live."

Upcoming SOILWORK festival appearances:

May 28 - Festimad Festival - Madrid, SPA
Jun. 3 - Rock Hard Festival - Gelsenkirchen, GER
Jun. 9-11 - Download Festival - Donnington, UK

CANDLEMASS

CANDLEMASS have posted the following message on their official web site:
"Hello doomlovers!! Not everything is clouded in the C-MASS camp. The band is currently recording the new album with full force, again in Stockholm's Polar Studios — the new place. Ten killer doom metal tracks are being put on tape (actually computer) right now. Leif [Edling, bassist/main songwriter] has just finished his bass overdubs and now it is Lars [Johansson, guitar] turn to add his magic to the growing CANDLEMASS pallet of doom. Rhythm guitars, solos, harmony guitars — maybe three days in total. By Sunday the basic tracks shall be finished. Then — in a smaller (and cheaper) studio — some keyboards, rough mixes, maybe more guitar overdubs, to make the eighth CANDLEMASS studio recording as good as possible. And folks, it's a concept album. It is about the road to ruin in the modern society. Death, destruction and suicide = pure doom!!! If Messiah [Marcolin] will sing on the album? The band certainly hope so!"

CANDLEMASS, won a Swedish "Grammy" award in February in the "Best Hard Rock" category, beating out the likes of HAMMERFALL, HARDCORE SUPERSTAR, MESHUGGAH and OPETH. The Swedish doom legends were honored for the Candlemass opus, which is available now on Nuclear Blast Records. Five back-catalog items from the band — "Epicus Doomicus Metallicus", "Ancient Dreams", "Doomed for Live", "Nightfall", and "Essential Doom" — were issued in the U.S. via Candlelight in February.

BLIND GUARDIAN frontman Hansi Kürsch has posted the following message on the official BG web site:

"Time to break the silence, time to say hello. As you all most probably know, we have finished the album some days ago and started doing some first shows already. It has been a blast to be back on stage again and do these small shows in Rijssen and Vosseljaar. We appreciate the kindness and the support of the people there and enjoyed the club atmosphere a lot. Istanbul was a great experience and 'The Bard's Song' sung by more than 2,000 Turkish fans was nothing but spectacular.

Even though the secret is revealed already, I would like to point out one more time the album is entitled A Twist in the Myth, and that's just because I unfortunately could not find allies for my most favorite album title suggestion, A Day At The Races. : ) With this album, I think, we have widened the range of the BLIND GUARDIAN universe more than we have ever done before. In terms of quality, we had a very good feeling during the whole recording session. But I nevertheless have to admit that the songs did make a gigantic step during the last days of recording and mixing. 'The Edge' and 'In Search Of The Lionheart' certainly will achieve absolute cult status within a very short amount of time. 'Skalds and Shadows' will prove its longevity in numerous live concerts. We are most excited about what your reaction to 'Another Stranger Me' — an aggressive and powerful heavy rocker — will be. The song has great potential.

Marcus and I composed a number called 'All the King's Horses,' which will be released on the Japanese version of A Twist in the Myth and on a single we are going to release in the beginning of 2007. It is a great song which will set emotions free, I am sure.

Some of the new songs will be presented on the road when we will start touring in September. We will use the summer break to check out which songs will fit in best to the program. Everything and everyone is in pretty good shape. All preparations for the fall tour are on schedule and the interest in tickets for the tour is really high. It pretty much looks like there are even more fans willing to see us than in 2002 which was the most successful tour we have done up to now. One more time we would like to thank you for your patience and can't wait to hear and see your reaction to the new songs. As soon as there are some download samples, we will let you know. Your endurance will be rewarded."

BLIND GUARDIAN will be shooting a video later this month for the track "Another Stranger Me." The upcoming video will be be the first to feature new drummer Frederik Ehmke, who replaced Thomen Stauch in 2005.

The track listing for A Twist in the Myth - due out in North America in September 2006 - is as follows:

01. This Will Never End (5:07)
02. Otherland (5:14)
03. Turn the Page (4:16)
04. Fly (5:43)
05. Carry the Blessed Home (4:03)
06. Another Stranger Me (4:36)
07. Straight through the Mirror (5:48)
08. Lionheart (4:15)
09. Skalds and Shadows (3:13)
10. The Edge (4:27)
11. The New Order (4:49)

BLEED THE SKY

BTS guitarist Kyle Moorman offers this update from the road while on the Jagermeister-sponsored tour with Ill Niño, God Forbid, Silent Civilian and Eyes Of Fire:

"This is the BEST tour we've been on! We've done two shows in New York City and Boston and both nights were awesome. We're always pushing ourselves to be better, to find new stuff to do on-stage, to give it our all for our live shows, and crowds like that definitely give us the energy we need to do that! Cristian [Machado, lead singer for Ill Niño] has watched our set every night. It's very flattering to have someone appreciating our music like that, and we're still on the road with our great friends in Silent Civilian. They REALLY helped us out when the transmission on our van blew up in Albuquerque by taking a lot of our gear in their trailer so we could make it home. I'll say it again: This is the BEST tour we've been on!"

DARKANE

Sweden's DARKANE have just returned from being on tour in Europe with Sadus and Glory Blister. Here's the official update from DARKANE guitarist, Christofer Malmström:

"We had a great time and the audiences were fantastic! After returning home to our hometown Helsingborg, we played a show here and filmed it with 9 cameras for a possible DVD. We are gonna listen to/watch the results within the upcoming days and see if it´s worth working on (mixing the sound and editing the video). If it´s good we might release it later this year together with extra material from our career. We've always brought a video camera on tours and studio recordings, so it might be a lot of fun to watch."

EXODUS

Having recently been confirmed for the Lorca Rock festival on June 17th in Murcia, Spain, EXODUS are currently on tour through North America in support of their late 2005 release, Shovel Headed Kill Machine with Full Blown Chaos and Subzero. If you're looking for a night of pummeling pit action, then bite the bullet and get yourself out to a show!! If you get hurt in the pit, word from the road is that riff machine Gary Holt also specializes in medical evaluations...

When Full Blown Chaos vocalist Ray Mazzola woke up with a knee the size of the cantaloupe in Florida, he asked road veteran Gary Holt to take a look at it. Gary instantly told him he was bit by a black widow. At the hospital, they verified that he had indeed been bitten by a Southern Black Widow. How that for having a trade to fall back on?

Besides using his time on the tour bus to work on riffs for the next album (and he SWEARS there will be no delays on this one!), Gary recently spoke to Nashua Telegraph correspondent Shawn Macomber about the current state of the thrash metal genre:

"If I was doing this for some quick buck - and let's be clear, there aren't a whole lot of 'em involved in this, I make a living at it but I'm certainly not rich - it would show. People would see right through it. They would listen to our records and hear the sound of someone past their prime doing it just to make a dollar. You have to love it for it to be honest. I still do."

"It seems like timing [for a comeback] is good right now, but, you know, I never really concerned myself with what everyone else was doing. Of course, that doesn't mean I don't think it's great that after the death of this whole nu-metal atrocity young bands are embracing the kind of music we pioneered and actually doing their own version of it. I couldn't be happier, and some of these great new bands - Shadows Fall, Lamb of God, Hypocrisy, The Haunted - have become very good friends of mine. But I'd be doing my thing either way."

"I'm not surprised [to see the resurgence in thrash metal] because I always saw nu-metal as a really, really bad trend that would have no staying power whatsoever," HOlt continued. "The most popular bands from that era are long dead and forgotten. Fred Durst's 15 minutes of fame are way up. I bet Paris Hilton won't even return his calls anymore."

GRAVEWORM

"GRAVEWORM may not be a major player quite yet, but with 2005’s (N)utopia, Lacuna Coil may have to start sharing the spotlight when it comes to popular Italian metal exports." - OUTBURN Magazine

With a musical landscape as varied as the range of their band member's occupations (which includes a psychologist, an electrician, a youth center worker, and a graphic designer), Italian sextet GRAVEWORM will be bringing their brand of melodic goth/black metal to North American shores for the first time during the Metal Maniacs and Brave Words & Bloody Knuckles-sponsored North American Metal Crusaders Tour.

A compact version of a traveling United Nations, Italy's GRAVEWORM is joining forces with Vader (Poland), Kataklysm (Canada), Destruction (Germany), Speed\Kill/Hate (New York), and The Absence (Tampa). The first show of this truly international line-up is set to take place on May 26th in Montreal, Québec. Checking in from his home in Italy, trilingual architect student and GRAVEWORM vocalist Stefano Fiori shares his thoughts on his maiden trip to North America in support of (N)utopia:

"We are looking forward to playing in every city on this tour. We're thinking of bringing empty suitcases for all the things we want to buy that we can't get here at home... haha. This will be a new experience for us and we are all curious about the response we will get over there. Maurizio from KATAKLYSM told us there are a lot of GRAVEWORM fans in Montreal, and that the people there generally go crazy at shows. We're also looking forward to visiting Las Vegas. We've heard a lot about it, but to be there would be a very different thing."

HAMMERFALL

HAMMERFALL guitarist Oscar Dronjak offers a quick news flash from across the Atlantic:

"We just began the process of recording our sixth full length album this week, and while it's still very early - two months - until we get the final mix, I have a great feeling about this. The drum sound is very heavy and powerful, fitting for the songs we have written."

Working titles for several of the new songs include: "Dark Wings, Dark Words," "Carved In Stone," "Titan," "Shadow Empire," "Threshold," and "Rebel Inside."

HAMMERFALL are expected to enter Lundgård Studios in Denmark ("a remote, beautiful countryside location that allows us to concentrate on metal goods and not get distracted by surrounding things or people," according to Dronjak) with producer Charlie Bauerfeind this summer. A studio journal will be kept at this location!

HAMMERFALL will be delivering a special performance at this year's Earthshaker Fest scheduled for July 21-22 in Kreuth, Germany.
HYPOCRISY

If the Grammys ever decide to open up a new awards category, Peter Tägtgren and the HYPOCRISY crew may already have the monopoly on it. "We are the drunkest band in the world."

ONE MAN ARMY AND THE UNDEAD QUARTET

"A vibrant and vital mid-tempo thrash monster." - Metal Maniacs

Like a seasoned sea captain, OMA&TUQ mastermind/lead singer Johan Lindstrand submits a report on the band's recent outing through Europe:

"We've just come home from a great tour with Hypocrisy, Soilwork, Amorphis, and Scar Symmetry. Everything went really smooth and all the bands got along very well. We had a lot of fun and we boozed around to the very maximum with roadies, labelmates, and fans. THE ARMY is now a well-oiled metal machine with a lot of touring and experience. We're building up a great band and we're here to stay... at least until we've done a U.S. tour, hehe. We've also done our first open air appearance EVER in Vienna at the Prater Festival on the 1st of May in front of 5,000 people. Reeeeally cool show. Other news from the camp is that we now have started to work on the next album already. Yes, we have like 5 - 6 songs in progress that we believe will be really fantastic. We plan to record it in November. Too early to reveal any details yet, but we have a lot of inspiration now and we're writing 'til we bleed."

21st Century Killing Machine recently made BWBK's Brave Picks Top Ten! Issue 96 will be out in stores this month.

SCAR SYMMETRY

"Pitch Black Progress - whose virtuosic quality can be attributed to guitarists Per Nilsson and Jonas Kjellgren - is one of the most progressive sounding death metal albums to come out this year." - Terrorizer

"Keep watching SCAR SYMMETRY. They have a striking sound with sickeningly good riffery." - Metal Hammer

Having just returned from stellar performances on the Neckbreakers Ball tour with label mates Hypocrisy, Soilwork, Amorphis, and One Man Army & The Undead Quartet, the band has received an overwhelmingly positive response to the May 2nd release of Pitch Black Progress here in North America.

SONATA ARCTICA

An update on the European tour from keyboardist Henrik "Henkka" Klingenberg:

"The three shows in Spain that we did were all pretty hot, but that was kinda expected. In Barcelona we almost missed our show because our bus broke down during the previous night. However, our supercrew managed to setup our gear in an amazingly short time and we pulled through. After spending an off-day somewhere in France (I got the flu and slept all day so I don't know where we were at), we drove to Paris and visited the Eiffel Tower. Those of us who saw it for the first time were kinda impressed. Today is the last off-day on this tour so we decided to go bowling for a change, this time we actually managed to get the Doro guys with us as well. Tomorrow is show number 150 on this tour, so there might even be a small party, hopefully the flu is gone by then."

THERION

Celebrators Of Becoming, THERION's 4-DVD + 2 Live CD box set scheduled for North American release on June 13th, is without a doubt the type of commemorative box set that fans of the band have longed to have.

DVD 1 is a complete live set from a show Mexico City; DVD 2 showcases life on the road from 2004 - 2005; DVD 3 is the band's live performance at Wacken 2001 (plus videos from 1992 - 2001); DVD 4 is a historical look at the band from 1989 through 2001; and CDs 5 & 6 are live audio from the Mexico City show.

Guitarist Christofer Johnsson reports that "pre-production of the new album is going well" and offered the following information about his time in the studio:

"Work = all the time; Sleep = never. THERION never give out any info like titles of songs on future releases before it's 100% finished. None [of the tracks] in particular feel difficult and they're all extremely enjoyable. The one with the working title 'Egypt' is one of the mosst enjoyable ones, but of course you won't know what song that is [until] the album finally goes public. A new electronic device I've picked up recently: a D.W. Fearn microphone amplifier." When asked about obtaining the Limited Edition George Lucas Stormtrooper action figure, Johnsson responded, "I think I can survive without that one."

In other news, the first CONFIRMED dates for THERION's World Tour for 2007 have been announced and include:

January 17th - Essen, Germany

Additional shows will be announced via the band's website once they're confirmed.
THUNDERSTONE

The band's next live performance set for June 10th at the Bomber Festival in Finland, but bassist and backing vocalist Titus Hjelm brings us up to speed on why upcoming shows have been sparse:
"We've been having a 'creative break' (whatever that is...), so there hasn't been much to tell lately. We've started writing and rehearsing new songs for our upcoming fourth album. So far we've made demos of three of the songs and the stuff sounds really promising. Heavier than ever, but still with the familiar THUNDERSTONE sound and groove. We'll have a couple more demo sessions before starting the actual recordings in the beginning of September. In other news, because of the tight writing schedule, we are not going to do many live shows this summer, but we are eagerly looking forward to the ProgPower festival and our first U.S. show!
