Super Return of the Jedi

Return of the Jedi. Ever heard of it? Of course you have. The concluding chapter of George Lucas' original Star Wars Trilogy comes to Nintendo's Game Boy. Closely following the 1983 film's plot line, Super Return of the Jedi features Luke Skywalker, Chewbacca, Leia, and Han Solo attempting the destroy the evil Emperor Palpatine and his second Death Star.

gameplay
Standard Game Boy fare. Characters are small but detailed, enemies and one-colored but noticeable, and bosses are large. Unfortunately, bosses also blend in with their surroundings, causing mass confusion. For instance, both Jabba's guard and Palpatine himself blend so well into their respective stages that they're hardly noticeable. A major flaw.

gameplay
Nearly worth the purchase price of $9.99 all by itself, though not for the reasons you'd believe. Gameplay noise is a stomach curdling "garb" sound; whether it is a jump or a slash. Projectiles also make this lame sound.

However, the game includes an extremely cheesy; and funny, MIDI rendition of the Star Wars theme. While the in-game sound just sucks, this is so funny it'd make any fan proud, or disgraced.

gameplay
A hack-n-slash to the "T." Played through a side-scrolling perspective, Jedi mostly has you swiping or shooting through various forms of enemies. This is done well, but gameplay becomes repetitive and you eventually just wish to get the password and turn the game off ASAP.

overall
A decent hack-n-slash game that will neither impress nor disgrace. Gameplay is repetitive, but it is a fun side-scroller for a lazy Sunday afternoon. While it wouldn't be worth a full price tag of $29, the $9 price tag makes it affordable. Recommended if you're bored.

final score 6.5/10
