(10/25/01, 10 a.m. ET) -- Britney Spears's first live, full-length HBO concert special, Britney Spears Live From Las Vegas at the MGM Grand on November 18, promises to be full of surprises. However, those surprises will not include her highly-anticipated duet with Cher on "The Beat Goes On," which Spears covered on her 1999 debut album, ...Baby One More Time. Cher was forced to cancel the planned duet because of a conflict with the European promotional schedule for her upcoming studio album, Living Proof.
"When they asked me, 'Who would you like to do a duet with?' I was, like, 'Please lets do it with Cher because I remade 'The Beat Goes On,'" said Spears. "But then when I found out, like, three weeks ago she wasn't gonna be able to do it, I was really disappointed, but I understand because she's a busy woman, so she's gotta do what she's gotta do."
Cher said on her official website (cher.com), "Britney has been extremely sweet and understanding, and I know we will do something together soon! I've told Britney how disappointed I am because I am really looking forward to performing with her."
Spears spoke with LAUNCH about her HBO concert special from Orlando, where she is currently rehearsing for her U.S. tour. "We have so many amazing things that have never been done before," she said. "I told the people that are working on the show to go into this place like it's a toy store and just pick out whatever they can. It's like in Playland when I do the show, honestly. It is so much fun."
Spears added that despite all of the fun toys she will have at her disposal, the HBO concert will also have its share of intimate moments. "Even though there's so many gadgets and stuff going on, there's still beautiful intimate moments to where I just sit down and play the piano, so it's, like, it's a show--it's a big show--so I'm really, really excited."
During her live concert special, the 19-year-old singer will perform songs from her third album, Britney, due out November 6, as well as an assortment of her greatest hits.
