NORTH SOUTH RAIL LINK

The MBTA, with project partners at Amtrak and the Mass. Executive Office of Transportation and Construction, has completed the planning study for proposed construction of a rail tunnel that would provide rail service connection between North Station and South Station. The Rail Link would enhance the regional rail system by eliminating the existing 1-mile gap that prevents direct through service between northern New England and points south along the East Coast. Issues of project financing and of identifying a project proponent lead to the conclusion that this is a long-range transportation project of northeast regional significance. A PDF version of the Major Investment Study/Draft Environmental Impact Report is now available here. All PDFs can be viewed with Adobe Acrobat Reader version 4.0 or higher.
