101 Taipei 101 review
101 Taipei 101 is an eating establishment in BDC that just opened up. I've been there with AL previously but didn't bring my digicam at that time so we went again last night for dinner.
101 Taipei 101 serves authentic Taiwanese cuisine and is named after the building in Taipei, Taiwan (see backdrop). The service is extremely friendly and the venue has a nice ambience to it - kinda warm, makes you feel welcome.
There is also a recessed tatami area in 101 Taipei 101 which was occupied when we went there last night. It's pretty comfortable, we sat there the first time we went there and the recessed pit doesn't necessitate the art of sitting cross legged while eating (which is a form of kung fu that is rather hard to master).
Hot and Spicy Dry Noodle (RM 3.50)
AL had this dish "extra hot" and it still wasn't spicy enough for the both of us. It tastes good though.
Beef Noodles (RM 5)
I had the signature beef noodles and it's the best beef noodles I've had to date - the soup is very hearty.
Taiwanese Sausage (RM 2.50)
I have learnt the great art of eating Taiwanese sausage from AL - apparently, you're supposed to eat each slice of sausage with a slice of garlic...it tastes much better that way.
Salted Crispy Chicken (RM 3.50)
The waitress recommended this signature side dish to us. I didn't think it tasted good (too dry and crispy, attributes I do not like in chicken) but AL seemed to like it. To each his (or her) own.
Dumplings (RM 4)
This is another one of the side dishes we ordered. It came stuffed with chives and I thought it tasted great. I finished most of the dish.
101 Taipei 101 is a great place for lunch and dinner - it seems to be always packed and the food is great, at a reasonable price.

Project Potatoes: Mashed potatoes with turkey ham, fish bites and gravy
I made dinner last night at the sixthseal.com kitchen with AL. I wanted to experiment with a meal of mashed potatoes so this is what we got:
Inland Valley Homestyle Mashed Potatoes
Jennie-O Extra Lean Turkey Bacon
Golden Smackeroos "30 real fish bites"
McCormick Beef and Herb Gravy
Night Hunter Merlot Cabernet
I've been doing a lot of cooking with AL lately due to my declining drug use (gotta have a new hobby right?). The Jennie-O Extra Lean Turkey Bacon was opened and cooked first, which with hindsight bias was a mistake since bacon gets cold real easy.
The pan was pre-heated and slices of turkey bacon cooked in batches of four (4) until the entire package was consumed. It's a meal meant to serve four (4) people including AL's parents.
The cooked bacon was piled onto a plate (which didn't take long - apparently the bacon was pre-cooked so it took less than a minute to heat it up).
Next, the Golden Smackeroos Real Fish Bites (which is "bursting with flavor", or so the box claims) was fried with the leftover bacon fat.
This was AL's choice, I didn't want to ruin the meal with "bite sized chunks of fish coated in golden batter" but I went with her anyway. It took longer to cook this, we should have cooked this one first instead of the bacon.
The cooked Golden Smackeroos Real Fish Bites were piled onto a plate like the bacon in preparation for the mashed potatoes.
The Inland Valley Homestyle Mashed Potatoes is an instant microwave dish so we nuked two boxes of it...
...and made the gravy - "Just Add (Hot) Water".
This is the finished dish.
It tasted great with the gravy on the mashed potatoes and a little bit of oregano sprinkled on the mashed potatoes.

Project Pancake: Buttermilk pancakes with honey and Hershey's Syrup
I woke up extra early today to make pancakes with AL in the sixthseal.com kitchen. It required:
Betty Crocker Pancake Mix (Buttermilk)
Capilano 100% Australian Honey
Walnut oil
Hershey's Syrup (Chocolate)
Ryan Ridge 2005 Shiraz (It is perfectly acceptable to drink in the morning)
The pancake mix is complete as in "Just add water"...
...so that's what we did. The ratio we used is 2 cups pancake mix to 2 cups water for a fluffier pancake. The mixture was stirred for about 3 minutes for each batch.
The skillet was preheated and walnut oil was used to cover the base before the pancake mix was poured into the pan.
Each side was cooked until "golden brown" (approximately a minute on high heat) and flipped for the other side to cook.
It tasted great, hot off the pan and topped with honey and Hershey's Syrup.
We just forgot the butter...

Project Pasta: Tortellini Grandi with Ricotta Spinach and liver pate
Project Pasta has been instantiated again with my latest gf AL. It is starting to look a lot like a rite of passage for my serious girlfriends. The sixthseal.com kitchen churned out Tortellini Grandi with Ricotta Spinach for lunch just now.
Ingredients:
Barilla Tortellini Grandi with Ricotta Spinach
Raguletto Pasta Sauce with Garlic - Red Wine
Henaff Liver Pate
Walnut oil
McCormick Season All Salt
McCormick Oregano
Societe Roquefort cheese
Angove's Bear Crossing Cabernet Merlot
The Barilla Tortellini Grandi with ricotta spinach is pre-made, that is, pre-filled with spinach.
I did manage to fool a couple of people for a while that I hand made it though, before I came clean. ;)
The liver pate is a French import and is meant to be the side dish to the pasta.
One pot of water with a dash of salt was brought to boiling point and the entire package of Barilla Tortellini Grandi with Ricotta Spinach was emptied into the receptacle.
The pasta was cooked for 15 minutes and then passed through a sieve.
Next, the Red Wine pasta sauce was heated up in a smaller pot...
...and mixed with the drained Barilla Tortellini Grandi with Ricotta Spinach in a larger pot.
Oregano was sprinkled onto the dish and garnished with sliced liver pate. It tasted surprisingly good with the liver pate as a side dish.
The Roquefort cheese and Angove's Merlot red wine ended the meal.
This is Project Pasta 2: Tortellini Grandi with Ricotta Spinach and liver pate.
Endnote: Will there be another sequel? ;)

AL
I have been told to make it clear that I love AL and nothing of a sexual nature has happened between us. I respect her and I love her for being her, not because of her work.
P/S - You know it's a serious relationship coz I have never said shit like that on my blog.

Grandma Handmade Noodle
Grandma Handmade Noodle is an eating establishment that's popular (ironically) for its bak kut teh.
The place is always packed with customers and almost everyone was eating bak kut teh (a local pork stew).
Grandma Handmade Noodle is so popular they have a whiteboard labeled "SOLD OUT BAK KUT TEH" to notify customers which part of the pork has been sold out!
We ordered their famous bak kut teh based on the recommendation of a friend and it tasted great!
The proprietor of the establishment introduced a new dish to us - Sambal Bak Kut Teh which is dry and comes with generous amounts of sambal.
I washed it all down with their special prune fusion juice, and it tasted heavenly, especially Grandma Handmade Noodle's Sambal Bak Kut Teh.
