WR Alexander retires with Chiefs

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (July 22, 2005) -- Wide receiver Derrick Alexander signed a contract with the Chiefs so he could retire as a member of the Kansas City Chiefs.

Alexander, who has not played football since 2002 when he played for the Minnesota Vikings, had 417 catches for 6,971 yards with 40 touchdowns and 16 rushes for 210 yards during his NFL career.

The 6-foot-2, 206-pounder played for the Chiefs from 1998 through 2001, appearing in 60 games. He was among the most productive pass catchers in franchise history, catching 213 passes for 3,685 yards with 19 TDs. He set a team single-season record in 2000 with 1,391 receiving yards.

Alexander, who lives in Kansas City, also played with Cleveland from 1994 to 1995, and with Baltimore from 1996 to 1997.
