About Senator Lamborn

     A Colorado Springs resident for 19 years, Doug Lamborn recieved his bachelor's degree in journalism from William Allen White School of Journalism at the University of Kansas.  He also graduated with a law degree from KU.  Since 1987, he has been an attorney in private general practice in Colorado Springs, specializing in business and real estate.

     Senator Lamborn is married to Jeanie, his wife of thirty years.  Together they have raised 5 grown children, one daughter who recently married, and four sons who have all become Eagle Scouts.

     State Senator Doug Lamborn has served in the Colorado House and Senate for the past 12 years.  He was elected to the Colorado House in 1994 and 1996, where he was elected Republican Whip in 1997.  Later on, 1998, Doug was elected to the State Senate where he was also elected to be President Pro-tem by his colleagues in 1999 and 2000.  Senator Lamborn is a ranking Republican and the former Chairman on the State Veterans and Military Affairs and Appropriations Committee.

     Senator Lamborn has a long and proven record of accomplishment.  Senator Lamborn sponsored and passed the largest tax cut in Colorado history, which has saved the people of Colorado over 1 billion dollars.  Doug has been named the highest-ranking tax cutter in the Senate, by the Colorado Union of Taxpayers, 5 of the last 7 years.

     Senator Lamborn sponsored and passed a tax cut that prompted government efficiency and exempted small businesses from paying any personal property taxes.  He also wrote legislation that would prevent elected officials from avoiding a vote of the people on tax increases by referring to them as fees.

     Senator Lamborn is a strong advocate for the military.  Doug sponsored bills to exempt active military from state income taxes, protected Fort Carson from encroachment, and introduced legislation to honor Bronze Star recipients.

     Doug is a committed conservative.  He has been a leader on pro-family issues, immigration reform, spending reduction, and protecting the 2nd amendment, to name a few.  Senator Lamborn's campaign for Congress has been endorsed by the NRA, National Right to Life, and NFIB (National Federation of Independent Business).

     In this year's legislative session, Senator Lamborn co-sponsored a bill that would have stopped all non-federally mandated tax-dollars to people living illegally in Colorado.  Doug previously sponsored legislation to greatly enhance criminal penalties against illegal immigrant smugglers.  Doug's efforts have earned him the endorsement of the immigration groups, Colrado Alliance for a Secure America, and the Minuteman Civil Defense Corp PAC.
