This page aims to list the areas in which Gentoo actively seeks to expand development efforts. Positions are open to both existing Gentoo developers and also those wishing to become a Gentoo developer. The priorities shown are sorted from highest to lowest.

This page does not list the only areas where contributions are welcome, but is only a reflection of where developers are needed the most. If you are interested in helping out in another area, then do not hesitate to contact the relevant development group anyway.

1 accessibility Requested on November 19, 2006 by William Hubbs: Gentoo's accessibility project is in need of help with things such as ebuild maintenance, kernel hacking, and LiveCD creation. We're also in need of someone to assist with bug solving.
1 arm Requested on November 19, 2006 by Mike Frysinger: To get Gentoo on to ARM CPUs we need developers to undertake package testing, patching and general bug solving.
1 backup Requested on November 19, 2006 by Robin Hugh Johnson: The app-backup herd is looking for developers to work on creating and maintaining ebuilds for backup applications within Gentoo. Experience with tape drives or any backup software (esp. Bacula, Arkeia, Tivoli) considered a major plus, but anybody willing to learn and having reasonable ebuild skills will be considered. 1 desktop-misc, desktop-dock and desktop-wm Requested on November 19, 2006 by Krzysiek Pawlik: desktop-misc, desktop-dock and desktop-wm herds need new developers to help with ebuild maintenance, introducing new ebuilds into the tree and general bugfixing.
1 dev-tools Requested on November 19, 2006 by Steve Arnold: Steve is looking for developers to help out with dev-tools.
1 embedded Requested on August 15, 2004 by Nedd Ludd: To get Gentoo working on uClibc systems we need people to help with uClibc debugging, toolchains, developing tools, and generally architecture testing and patching.
1 gnome Requested on November 19, 2006 by John N. Laliberte: The GNOME herd needs people who want to help maintain packages and help with bug-solving.
1 GNUstep Requested on March 25, 2006 by Recruiters: Currently the GNUstep herd consists of one member and is in dire need of additional manpower to help maintain ebuilds and assist in bug squashing.
1 java Requested on November 19, 2006 by Karl Trygve Kalleberg: The Java team is looking for new developers to help with maintaining Java ebuilds. In particular, Eclipse and related tools, Enterprise Java applications and libraries and gcj need more attention.

1 s390 Requested on November 19, 2006 by S390 Team: To get Gentoo on to S390 CPUs we need developers to undertake package testing, patching and general bug solving.

2 alpha Requested on November 19, 2006 by Bryan Oestergaard: The Alpha team is looking for developers with the ability to maintain (bug-fix, test) packages for the Alpha hardware platform. Ideally these developers have access to, or own, Alpha boxes.
2 bsd Requested on November 19, 2006 by Gentoo/BSD Team: The BSD team is looking for developers who have experience with both BSD and with GNU/Linux to help port Gentoo to the FreeBSD platform.
2 security Requested on November 19, 2006 by the Gentoo Security Team: The Gentoo Security Team is seeking GLSA Coordinators to help with open security bugs that need solving.
2 toolchain Requested on November 19, 2006 by Mike Frysinger: There are a large number of bugs related to GCC, binutils and glibc that need to be solved.
2 voip Requested on November 19, 2006 by Stefan Knoblich: To further develop and support Voice over IP applications more developers are wanted.
3 sci Requested on November 19, 2006 by Steve Arnold: The Sci team is looking for developers to help out with GIS.
