FESTIVAL 2005

OUT LATE NOVEMBER 2006
A NEW LIVE DVD - 'FESTIVAL 2005'

In 2005 a nascent Cure trio of Robert Smith, Simon Gallup and Jason Cooper celebrated the return of former guitarist Porl Thompson with a series of nine eclectic headline festival shows across Europe. The quartets unique blend of passion and power proved to be a thrilling combination, and the summer set a new benchmark for Cure live highs.

Festival 2005 presents a selection of these performances captured by a mix of fans, crew and ‘on-the-night-big-screen cameras’.

Edited by Daren Butler and mixed by Keith Uddin in collaboration with Robert Smith, this 30 song DVD is a wonderful reminder of how and why The Cure remain one of the most vibrant bands on the planet.

No,

Live 8 (Paris) is not on the DVD.

You can buy the video of that through Amazon, CDUniverse and most other places you buy DVDs online.

2005 festival - great!! - i have already worn ot my dvd play

..but,live 8 and the cure in paris..is this the paris footage ?
i have only seen 100 years performance and the backdrop film footage was "full on"-
So,Q?
Does 2005 fest film footage incl.paris live 8?

Or,if not, does anyone know where i can see the 3 tunes other tunes which i know they played and surely like 100 years fimed?

I mean it is not as if they would turn the camears off,at least not these days!!?
x

Terravibe Greece

no scenes from Greece at all...
Why?

One of these days...

I may buy this dvd... Or maybe Santa will be kind to sweet moonie...

/P

pure rock!!!

WOW!!!
finally i got it!! and i think i recognice myself on the bennicassim images!!!!
What a powerful band!!! love u guys
best wish!!! for the 2007!!!!

after

after watching it, i think its great. yeah it looks a little homemade, but it was kind of an after thought,(i.e. not planned)
anyway it sounds wonderful, can't wait for the new album!

Ha!

I'm watching now and enjoying. "The Drowning Man"... ahh, this song brings back memories of lying in bed and being totally absorbed in Gormenghast. Good times...

And that one day where I heard the song itself for the first time. I was in the car, and it was foggy outside. Perfect atmosphere.

I finally got it!

I liked it. I think it was stimulating in both sound and vision.

Plus Simon looks HOT!!!

;)

dissipation - indulging one's vices!!

...well err (that is just one of so many interpretations of the WORD,..and i think that is what i meant..so i have to work with that!?
Vice - a particular fault or bad habbit.

OK,in my drunk context what i am doing right now is reference to enjoyment!!Enjoying the Cure 2005 Festival dvd with a bottle of wine(or a little bit more!) ok? x

how about some more news?

..we all LOVE the 2005 festival dvd in some way or other or absolutely adorably completing!
..lines in and outs keyboards and film qualty and of course disissipation(if somebody knows please tell me what it means..x)
..but,when and where are the 2007 going to occur?..release a couple more soon and we might all sleep at nights!
colombia sounds fantastic and in my view is clearly plainly the way to go along with a lot of other south amerian visits(..one fan base sie reports a bumper year of 104 shows!)..i am not saying that, but, kick arse and do at least 40-and min of 3 in EUROPE-x

BRAZIL NEEDS YOU!!!

I'd like to let my words of agreement that you guys need to come and save our EARS...You are the best ever... Imagine how happy we would be to go to a cure concert in 2007...Give us that chance please...I've been to some concerts and everytime is a new emotion...

roll with it

for those who are looking for keyboards, Porl can pretty much make any sound he wants with his axe so just do what we Curheads do and roll with this version of the band you will truly enjoy it, certainly if you have an ounce or two of rock running through your veins that is....

What I see and hear at the moment is a foursome that's kicking some arse, so rock out with your bad selves baby......that's what it's all about.

Festival 2005

A live dvd....happy days! It is good, but missing a key element of the Cure's sound....keyboards. I love seeing Porl back, and maybe the new tracks will sound fine without keyboards, but there are so many songs on this DVD that had keyboards in prominence....it sounds somewhat lacking. Gone are the lush, atmospheric soundscapes that make the Cure the greatest band around. Bring back a keyboard player and the Cure will be as good as they were at their best. Oh yeah!

Great DVD but...

Finished watching festival. Absolutely brilliant idea after the fact to realize how much footage was out there and then cut a dvd out of it. This should be done atleast in hind sight for every tour here on out, if a proffesional planned film is not done. For any body complaining about quality etc. come on. Brilliant idea... for the new incarnation of The Cure. Having Porl back is one of the greatest things to happen to this band. Got to love watching him shred it up. It just adds a whole new dimension to the band. Now that he's back, I would love to see even more and longer jams and solos from both him and robert... BUT...
I've got to say I was most interested about this dvd to see The Cure live as a 4 piece and to see it keyboardless (I wasn't even sure until I watched the video that it was. Figured Porl would jump up there on the keys atleast for something like plainsong or a forest). And after I saw them keyboardless...well I would have to say I was dissapointed. And it wasn't just the keyboards. It was a lack of a fith member. It wasn't just keyboards missing. There were very obvious guitar riffs absent from songs like open. There's only so much four guys can do without prerecorded tape when there are atleast five or more distinctive instruments played on the originally recorded song. Also I found it interesting that robert never picked up an acoustic guitar for songs like inbetween days, just like heaven and from the edge of the deep green sea (for which I guess he was also taking up slack for the lack of a fifth band member). Actually, I can't really recall him playing anything but the Schecter. I think all this contributed to a lack of distinction between most of the songs. One of the greatest things I loved about the cure is that there has also been a wide range of songs with a wide and distinctive sound for different songs. This dvd made it feel they were taking there old songs and adapting them to this new cure sound and I think it kind of left a lot to be desired. You could feel and hear things blurred and missing. I would still rather listen to this incarnation of the cure live than 99% of bands out there. And when they go on tour, I will still follow them, but it does make me sad to think that now that they have added so much with porl that they are still missing a very key portion of their live show which is a utility guitar/keyboadist very much like parry was. I'm fine with the fact that they recorded a new album as a 4 piece because you can layer upon layer all the instruments you want and this lineup is the cure sound for this album. But if they go out on tour as a four piece, I'll be quite let down because I can just see how brilliant this band would be with that added element which made them what they are over the past 20 + years.

Faith and the live feed

Watched the Festival 2005 DVD last night after my gig, and I'm definitely into the guitar-driven sound. Porl is ripping it up as great as ever. It seemed like the band were truly enjoying theselves while rockin' out...

I thought live feeds were restricted, in that they could not be released publicly?. How did the band get around that, or is that rule just simply not the case? Or do they waive that rule due to the festival settings? Or perhaps it's a non-U.S. thing? Just call me curious I guess, as I always find interest in stuff like that.

Moving version of "Faith", especially in that setting. That song is probably among five or so tunes that are the absolute reason why I am making $1,900 this month performing music as a part-time job and will be continuing to so for the next 40-50 years.
