Gallery: F1 Championship Edition

f1ce_leadin.jpgLooking at screens of F1 Championship Edition for the PlayStation 3 gives me the feeling of looking at a real Formula One car. Oh, by no means am I saying that this game is photorealistic. But it's sleek, shiny, and I know I'll never ever touch it. I require a little more futuristic hovercar in my driving games.

I'd call that photorealism.. Just see it in motion.. It's beautiful!

This game looks awesome...def will be picking this one up...need something till GT5 is ready. Anyone know if they plan to release the GT4 download in the states, i heard it was just going to be released for download in Japan.

Good to see the actually touched up the driver model and added in the environment mapping for him. In the current PS3 demo he's pretty much just a flat textured model with no lighting.

Another PS3 game that won't live up to the hype, first it was Killzone 2, then Motorstorm, now this

I bet it looks great in motion, at 200+ mph any flaws will be pretty unnoticable.
Was this the game that you could use the psp as a rear-view mirror for? Can't wait for that (groan).

I'll believe it when I see it.

The screens look beautiful, though in motion it might be less realistic. When I originally saw this post though, I thought it was a picture of a real race. Coming along nicely I'd say.

"Paris Hilton says:

Though I'd never say it aloud, unless provoked in this comfortable comfortably anonymous setting, I think of anyone who uses the term "photorealistic" (or a mutation thereof) to refer to any actual game or render of the foreseeable future a stupid whore.

No offense intended, I'd think someone with the username of "Paris Hilton" is looking for some insults. And if you happen to be Ms. Hilton for some reason, the same reasoning applies to you.

Y'know, if your head's buried in videogames all the time, as I know mine is, you may start to think of this stuff as realistic. But take a look out a window and you should see pretty quick how they have a very long way to go yet.

"I require a little more futurisitc hovercar in my driving games."
Amen. Hovering is used a bit too often these days, but by no means necessary. I still hold out hope for a new Rock 'n Roll Racing... I'm sure a day's worth of Blizzard's revenue could pay for something worthy.

Hmm, I'm surprised that the consensus is that these screens are impressive.

The texture work in those shots is below the standard I'd expect from an original Xbox title. No bump-mapping on the tarmac, blurry fences, grass that doesn't look like it's been textured at all...

Admittedly, I've yet to see it in motion, but that still looks well short of PGR 3 quality from those shots.

most realistic driver sim, it will be.

RMMM

xD ^Yoda :P

Yeah, each water in the puffs or splashes of water, are real particles of water O_O

yup. ;)

and the smoke, oh man... the graphics are just surreal....

I can't freaking wait omg!

to Dorcas:

Maybe you've never taken any of the GranTurismo 4 photorealism tests... because you'd probably fail 6/10..... that was avg.. actually, 7/10 was avg(in failing)

this game is farrrrrrr beyond GT4 graphics... FAR beyond.

I'd like to see you pass 10/10 on your first try, pal.

Wow! this game looks amazing i was doubtful that they could've improved the visuals over the demo but glad to admit that they have. I usually don't go for F1 games however this one really give me a itchy driving finger. Those visual are just DAMN!!!

Image of Figdbl Figdbl says:

Try this little trick, look at the cars, now look at the crowd, now quickly back at the cars. It does actually mae the cars look real for a split second. Untill you realize they aren't. But the game does look nice. Me being a fan of the driving genre is liking this...yeah that sentence made no sense.

No commenter image uploaded Taz says:

Looks alright but nothing spectacular imho.

Looks good, but I'll hold off my opinions until I see it in the flesh. Sony are the king of bullshot.

Too bad the U.S. got screwed, and never got the PS2 version.

No commenter image uploaded Lider says:

Man, this si really impressive. The cars look exactly like the their real counter-parts and they are even detailing the pilot's helmets. I also really like the shot that shows the driving panel of Button's Honda, it's amazing with lots of details. Finally a game besides MGS4 that I'm looking forward to. :P

Hey... I just noticed that this looks no-where near as good as the last set of shots they released. What's going on?

No commenter image uploaded maxi says:

At least the 4 last screenshots are taken from an in-game replay.

That's all I'm saying.

No commenter image uploaded kod says:

"Anyone know if they plan to release the GT4 download in the states, i heard it was just going to be released for download in Japan."

Since the PS3 is region free (what's that? a little cognitive dissonance for people who think sony hates consumers?) it's easy to make another ps store account for another region and download the games. I've already downloaded the Hong Kong RR7 demo for instance.

No commenter image uploaded BenHobbs says:

You have got to be kidding me, I clicked on the link expecting to be dissapointed but Jeez who on earth thinks those are anywhere near photo-realistic?

There's no frigging textures, it looks so flat, there's absolutely no feeling of depth.

People don't seriously think this is that hot do they? It looks like a PS2 game, look at the grass, the road, the metal barriers. The cars aren't even that well done, This isn't as impressive as most recent racers even.

Image of Dorcas Dorcas says:

I've never heard of the "GranTurismo 4 photorealism tests", but point me to them and I will defeat you in glorious battle, as long as they are a thing on the internet and not too much for my crappy connection.

I rock the Pepsi Challenge (though it's pretty easy when the Coke's served warm).
I'll kick your ass at a Rorschach (85% are vaginas).
I should be very good determining what is a real thing and what is not.

I just got a boner.

i played the demo on my dentist's PS3...it's oh so realistic, but i can't seem to get SIXAXIS to work with it...maybe because they cripple motion sensing in the demo.

but both thumbs way up on this if you want true-to life details, just make sure you have an HDTV. idk what my dentist's TV is, i think its 720p, but it's enough to make me feel like i'm in the stands at monza. and if SIXAXIS worked, i would have felt like i was in the car.

Yeah, for some reason, I haven't been able to get my SIXAXIS to work on it, NFS:Carbon, no driving games atol.... :(

sucks really bad

Dorcas, go on google, search GT4, go to their site, and take the test. :)

no lying now, tsk tsk tsk

also, if you say the graphics look bad, look at Project Gotham Racing 3 for X360, all it did was have better textures, sound, and motion blur, as well as some better lighting effects(it seemed...)

This game looks sikkkk
