Well, I have no problems with DRI working in 8.0 but in 8.1 I couldn't
get it to work. I believe it was a bios issue with my A7V motherboard. I
was at rev. 1009 in the bios and the latest was 1011. I was told by a
few others that 8.1 works perfectly with 1011 but may have issues with
anything older then 1010. I fell back to 8.0 for the time being. I did
this a week ago because I simply do not have time to putz with things
lately to get them to work. Here's a snippet of my XF86Config file ..the
same file I used in 8.0 then in 8.1 then again in the new install of
8.0. With this file DRI works perfectly.

I had no AGP option put in by sax2 or by myself and it preforms very
well. I believe it was a bios problem interacting with the kernel and
other such things.
