Changes in Broadcasting Policies Highlight Revised OHSAA Media Regulations

  • At its May 11 meeting, the OHSAA Board of Control approved revised OHSAA Media Regulations, effective for the 2006-07 school year. Key changes within the regulations are: 1.) The Board of Control may waive the regulation of no live television or video cybercasts for Friday night football games and OHSAA tournament contests at its discretion on a case-by-case basis; 2.) Tournament rights fees will be waived for Educational Access Television Stations and Low Power Radio Stations in which both types of stations are not-for-profit, do not have commercials and are produced by volunteers; and 3.) The Board of Control may waive the regulation of no live video cybercasts for Friday night football games for school video cybercasts.

An OHSAA broadcasting subcommittee met in January and recommended that the general media regulations be overhauled to provide more details and specifics to help clarify policies for both the members schools and the media. The new policies were reviewed by members of the subcommittee, members of the OHSAA Media Advisory Committee and OHSAA staff members.
