Ruff, Carlyle to coach All-Star teams

Buffalo Sabres head coach Lindy Ruff and Anaheim bench boss Randy Carlyle have been named the head coaches for the Eastern and Western Conference All-Star teams, respectively.

The head coaches of the two teams with the top points percentages in the Eastern and Western Conference through games of Friday, January 5 - the halfway point of the 2006-07 regular season - earn the honour of coaching the all-star teams.

Ruff's Sabres lead the Eastern Conference with 61 points in 40 games entering Thursday's play, and are assured of having the Conference's top points percentage through Friday. Carlyle's Ducks lead the Western Conference with 62 points in 42 games and are guaranteed of topping their Conference.

Montreal Canadiens coach Guy Carbonneau and Mike Babcock of the Detroit Red Wings currently lead close racese for the assistant coaching positions within their respective conferences.

The starting lineups for the All-Star Game will be announced January 9. The complete rosters and YoungStars Game participants will be unveiled on January 13.


The 2007 NHL All-Star Game will take place Wednesday, January 24 in Dallas.

Million Dollar Shootout

Five lucky hockey fans, including 29-year-old Jason Hall, guaranteed themselves a happy New Year, as they each took home a brand new 2007 Next Generation Chevy Silverado as part of the inaugural Chevy Silverado Million Dollar Shootout contest on TSN. Hall and two friends - Mason Ward and Gord Cameron - scored a combined 21 goals, 6 more than the required 15, into an open net, each winning a Chevy Silverado. Hall also scored 14 goals into an open net from the far blue line in 24 seconds - just 1 goal short of the required 15 to win the grand prize $1 million in a windfall one-time payout.
