Easy Go, Easy Come

Space Mercer the Mercer Street boutique has covered its windows with paper and a small sign saying, "we have closed indefinitely. Please call yada yada for more information. happy new year."

Or something to that effect.

The airy space which carried Burfitt, Martin Margiela, and Comme des Garcons among other menswear inspired clothes just opened this summer and is already in retail purgatory.

But Mercer Street continues to be a bastion of relevant shops. Apparently Vera Wang is opening up her first freestanding boutique carrying her ready to wear line just down the street....

Across from Marc Jacobs and Marni.

Charmed, I'm sure.

Speaking of jewelry, it's been a charm-ing 2006. From Target to Juicy and Rachel Leigh to Tiffany, charms are the hottest accessory of late -- no wonder, since they sparkle and tinkle and fussy girls can change them as often as they swap nail color.

These earnest, handmade charms by Rose S. Kessler are handmade and full of character. Just in time for Valentine's Day too!

Rosy S. Kessler charms can be ordered from Kessler directly at (212) 535-7307.

Lapo of Luxury

Overdosing in the company of tranny prostitutes hasn't hurt the reputation of Fiat heir Lapo Elkann.

The nattily dressed playboy who resurrected the flagging allure of the Fiat brand with a line of vintage logo sweatshirts, snow gear, and luggage is now venturing into luxury fashion.

His new website www.ItaliaIndependent.com, launching this week will start off with sunglasses called "i,i" to be followed by other treats all made in Italia. He calls them personal belongings not accessories.

Tip o' the cap

The weather may be mild, but it's still cool enough for that winter fashion staple: the hat. Check out The Post's advice on what style is best for you, from the fedora to the knit to the engineer.

Also, check out the Sunday paper's guide to the best wallets and keychains. As well as an excerpt from "The A-List Workout," which teaches you how to get Uma's shoulders and a Victoria's Secret model's legs.

Take the 6 or C train...

To Stuart & Wright, Brooklyn's newest newsworthy boutique, where le Eiffel adorns the leftover sign from the previous occupants, French Garment Cleaners. But the kitsch ends there.

Stop in for APC, Lyell, Loeffler Randall shoes, luscious men's sweaters from What Goes Around Comes Around, and other classic pieces.

Why go now?

Courting Taste

Though the sales of some celeb designed duds have cooled a bit this year, one could only hope for a complete drop in 2007....unless your name is Gwen Stefani.

But the House of Dereon is going strong. (we know it looks like the muse for Tina "mother of Beyonce" Knowles' fashion line is Jackee's character on 227) So perhaps it's only right that she's designing the official uniforms of the NETS dancers. With a knack for tack, Knowles finally hit her target audience.
