Dr. Belfer, Professor of Psychiatry, is a child and adolescent psychiatrist in the Department of Social Medicine at Harvard Medical School and Senior Associate in Psychiatry at the Boston Children's Hospital. He is currently
seconded to the World Health Organization in Geneva. Dr. Belfer, as Senior
Consultant for Child and Adolescent Mental Health, is working on the development of a global plan for child and adolescent mental health, and associated projects. He is a former Department Chairman at Harvard Medical School and served as Special Assistant to the Administrator of the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration in Washington, DC. He trained in adult and child psychiatry at Harvard Medical School affiliated programs and has a Masters in Public Administration from the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University. He recently edited the volume "Cultural and Societal Influences in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry." He is author of the chapter "International Child Mental Health" in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry: A Comprehensive Textbook. He recently oversaw the publication of the WHO
report,
"Caring for Children with Mental Disorders: Setting WHO Directions."
