MATERIALS
Caron International’s Simply Soft Shadows (100% acrylic; 3 oz/85g, approx 150 yds/137m):
3 (4) balls #0007 Mardi Grey;
one pair each sizes US 6 and 8 (4 and 5mm) knitting needles, or size to obtain gauge;
one size US 6 (4mm) circular needle, 29" or 36 long;
tapestry needle (tn)

GAUGE
In Stockinette st, using larger needles, 17 sts and 23 rows = 4 /10 cm.

STITCHES USED

Stockinette st (St st): Knit all sts on RS, purl all sts on WS. 2 x 2 Rib (multiple of 4 sts + 2 - cuffs; multiple of 4 sts - edging):
Row 1 (RS): * K2, p2; repeat from * across — end k2 for cuffs.
Row 2: Knit the knit sts and purl the purl sts as they face you. Repeat Row 2 for 2 x 2 Rib.
NOTE: Shrug is worked straight (back and forth), from Cuff to Cuff; Rib Edging is picked up and worked circular in 2 x 2 rib after assembly.

SHRUG
Beg at one Cuff, using smaller needles, CO 42 (46) sts. Beg 2 x 2 rib; work even until piece meas 3 from beg, end with a WS row. Change to larger needles and St st.
Shape Sleeves: (RS) Inc 1 st each side this row, then every 5 rows 23 (26) times 90 (100) sts; place a marker (pm) each side for end of Sleeves. Continue in St st until piece meas 19 (21) from marker, end with a WS row; pm each side for beg of rem Sleeve. (RS) Dec 1 st each side this row, then every 5 rows 23 (26) times 42 (46) sts rem. Change to smaller needles and 2 x 2 rib; work even for 3 . Bind off in rib.

FINISHING
Fold piece in half lengthwise, with Sleeve markers aligned; sew Sleeve seams from cuff to markers.
Rib Edging: Using circular needle, pick up and knit 200 (216) sts around Front and Back opening, [100 (108) sts, evenly spaced, between each set of markers]; join, pm for beg of rnd. Work in 2 x 2 rib until piece meas 3" from pick-up rnd. Bind off all sts very loosely in rib. Using tn, weave in ends.

1. MACHINE WASH and DRY INSTRUCTIONS: Machine Wash, warm water, gentle cycle. Machine Dry, low heat, delicate cycle.
2. HAND WASHING and DRYING: Wash gently in warm water using a mild detergent. Gently rinse well in cold water. Lay flat on a towel and roll in towel to remove excess water.
DO NOT WRING, STRETCH OR HANG TO DRY.
