Jerry Yang on China

He says he believes the society is changing very quickly, and he says that the people there have a tremendous amount of hope and confidence that didn't exist there ten years ago. As a society he thinks they have started down a one-way street, in that they have to give people more education, technology and a free market. He thinks those things will drive freedom of speech.

He asks all the time if he is helping a good or bad regime and that he doesn't always believe in, and that they have that issue in Germany too.

He believes that by being there and providing infrastructure that they are going to have a positive influence. He says that is what he is investing in, creating a dialogue now.

SpikeSource, Kim Polese's new Open Source IT company.

Kim Polese just annouced her new company which is working in the Open Source space: SpikeSource.

She calls it an "Open source IT services company" — the idea is to piggyback on Open Source software and make money off of providing services, support, etc.

35 employees right now. Here's the mp3.

Mozilla/Firefox leader speaks at Web 2.0 conference

Brendan Eich (see bio below), who works on the Mozilla project, is speaking at Web2.0 conference (http://web20.weblogsinc.com) right now. I'll have an Mp3 file up in 15 minutes… so reload this page if you like.

Brendan Eich Eich is responsible for architecture and the technical direction of Mozilla. He is charged with authorizing module owners, owning architectural issues of the source base and writing the "roadmap" that outlines the direction of the Mozilla project. Eich created JavaScript, did the work through Navigator 4.0, and helped carry it through international standardization. Before Netscape, he wrote operating system and network code for SGI; and at MicroUnity, wrote micro-kernel and DSP code, and did the first MIPS R4K port of gcc, the GNU C compiler.

Have not done any comments about these panels yet cause I'm overloaded with keeping up with all this great content, and I lost my partner in crime Sean Bonner.

Media Panel: CNET, New York Times, Tivo etc.

So, John put together a media panel and he stacked it with all big media companies. One-sided conversation for sure.

The panel was horrible because there was no one from the blogosphere on the panel and the panel talked about blog for about 3 minutes. Here's the Mp3.

Web 2.0 presentation by Richard F. Rashid, Ph.D., Senior Vice President, Research, Microsoft

Microsoft labs showed off some of their projects. No time to write it up, but they hit on Wallop and medical databases. I deleted the Mp3 file by accident!

Looking to find out if anyone else covered it, or has an MP3.
