Oratorio [Box set] (2003) 2003 Latin Grammy Nominee for Best Brazilian Contemporary Pop Album. The Record features Special Guests: Maria Rita Mariano (Elis Regina and Cesar Camargo Mariano's Daughter), Eumir Deodato, Marina Machado and Simone Guimaraes. --album description The music on this CD is almost visually aural in it's intensity:
one can almost see it floating, undulating, and spinning in front of us, defying
capture. Milton performs alone and with three awesome female vocal guests. The
Grammy winning daughter of Elis Regina, the stunning Maria Rita; the brilliant
"Santa Rosa songbird" Simone Guimaraes; and the wonderous Marina Machado. Trust
me, they more than hold their own with Milton, which is probably why he invited
them to sing with him. Indeed the haunting duet with Maria Rita on "Tristesse"
won a Latin Grammy in 2003. The title song, "Pieta" is fantastic with Milton
spinning unusual key changes amid the insistent martial beat. Marina Machado's
anguished middle-eastern flavored cries on "Pieta" are so poignant it almost
transports us back in time. The pulsating starkness of "Boa Noite" is off set by
Simone's beautiful voice, trading verses with Milton before joining him in
unison and scatting on the arc of her voice to the end. The very beautiful
"Vozes Do Vento" (Voices of the Wind) concludes with all three female guests
singing with much gusto with Milton, amid double stops above the percussion and
chorus. And Milton on ANY ballad on this CD is worth the price of admission
alone. Don't forget to check out Herbie Hancock and Pat Metheny with Milton on
"Canteloupe Island", it's very cool.

Sede Do Peixe (DVD) FIVE STARS!! No, wait: SIX STARS!! This is TOTALLY COMPELLING Milton at his best in song, images, and revealing conversations. And the big news is the full English and Spanish subtitled translation of each song and all conversation. And there is The Voice: the mellow tenor and the enthralling falsetto, co-existing side by side. This DVD finally cracks the language code on many mysterious verses of well known Brazilian songs and on the background of the man, himself. Thank you, Milton, for this translated thoughtfullness, and thank you, Brazilian state of Minas Gerais, for giving us Milton. Here you'll find the "Clube de Esquina" song (twice) and the Clube de Esquina group members singing and talking, a truncated video sliver of Elis Regina with Milton singing "Cancao do Sal (Salt Song)"; finally we can read the HAUNTING lyrics as it's sung by 'The Queen Diva', herself. The wonderful Zelia Duncan is SPELLBINDING singing "San Vicente" in duet with an obviously appreciative Milton. The classic "Ponta de Areia" becomes a wordless tone poem for Wagner Tiso's spare piano and Milton's poignant accordion. Add to this, big spare performances by Nana Caymmi (a sizzling "Cais" with some spine-tingling Milton falsetto), a very sassy Alcione, classsic Caetano Velosa, vibrant Gilberto Gil (Wow, "Raca" is great), the fabulous Alaide Costa (who transforms "Me Diexa Em Paz"), and a good rocking Skank, among many others, and you have a fabulous DVD by a 'Living Brazilian National Treasure' and a virtual constellation of stars performing with him. Even the jam sessions over drinks and conversation are fascinating. And only Milton could make music and rhythm from a sheet of aluminum foil (with Carlinhos Brown). --an Amazon reviewer

Travessia In fact, this album is worth its cost for this arrangement of "Travessia" alone. The music was recorded in 1967, and it has the orchestrated feel of that time; Luiz Eca and Deodato, who scored many movies, did the work here. Nascimento also performs great versions of Tres Pontas, Catavento, Morro Velho, and Outubro - songs that he has performed thousands of times since, many, on other albums - and these renditions stand out 37 years later. This music will never ever be dated or out-of-date. --an Amazon reviewer
Travessia (O Melhor De Milton Nascimento)
Txai
Milton Nascimento is one of the world's greatest
singers and songwriters, an artist whose work transcends boundaries. His music can be
melancholy and haunting, or it can be upbeat with catchy melodies and bouncy rhythms. Jazz
musicians, dozens of whom have interpreted Milton's songs, especially revere his
compositions for their beautiful melodies and unusual textures and harmonies. Milton's
songs seamlessly weave together threads of Mineiro toada, bossa nova, Gregorian chants,
nueva canción, fado from Portugal, Spanish guitar, Andean flute music, jazz, rock, or
classical music. His music is full of elaborate
harmonies and a strong lyricism expressive of a
yearning imagination. It reflects Minas Gerais, yet has a
universal appeal that crosses all boundaries.
