See calamari that will overfill your plate at the Delaware Museum of Natural History

The giant squid is a long way from fried calamari.

While most squid are no more than 60 centimeters long, the giant squid is the world's largest invertebrate at 60 feet.

No wonder it has inspired fantastic tales and scared the wits out of sailors.

You can learn all about this fearsome creature at a new exhibit at the Delaware Museum of Natural History, on Del. 52, five miles northwest of Wilmington.

At the exhibit you can:

•See the first video footage of a giant squid

•Examine a squid beak and suckers

•Compare your height to the squid

The Delaware Museum is open 7 days a week. Hours are 9:30 am to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Saturday, and noon to 4:30 p.m. on Sundays.

The exhibit is called "In Search of Giant Squid" and was developed by the National Museum of Natural History and the Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition Service in partnership with the Discovery Channel.

Hometown Spinto Band to perform at UD

The Spinto Band, whose indie success has roots in Wilmington, performs Friday at the University of Delaware’s Bacchus Theater.

Tickets are on sale at the doors, which open at 8 p.m. for the 8:30 show. The cost is $8, students $4.

Tric Town concert series marks sixth anniversary

Tric Town -- Wilmington's longest-running monthly concert series -- is celebrating its sixth year this weekend with a big show featuring a quartet of Philly bands.

Like a Fox, fronted by Jay Laughlin (formerly of Lenola and Jade Tree's Turning Point), will headline .

Greenfront -- a power pop group founded at the University of Delaware in 2004 by roommates Tim Kiely and Josh Greenfield -- will perform, as well as Grammer Debate! and the Swimmers.

It all goes down at Mojo 13, 1706 Philadelphia Pike, Holly Oak. The show starts at 9 p.m. Saturday and costs $5.

Tric Town will also mark the release of the latest issue of Trixine, a free, alternative regional publication.

King Kong Bundy puts comedy on the mat tonight at the Colosseum

If World Wrestling Federation legend King Kong Bundy were a stand-up comedian, what would he joke about?

The time he interfered in a match between former cohort Big John Studd (R.I.P.) and Andre the Giant (again, R.I.P.) in Toronto on Aug. 18, 1985, and broke the Giant's sternum after leveling countless Bundy Splashes on the big man? Or how it itches to wear those huge man leotards with the shoulder straps? Or what it's like to pull on Hulk Hogan's skullette?

Well, Bundy is a comedian now, and fellow funnyman Jeff Collins says the dude is pretty good.

Bundy will host the "Heavyweights of Comedy" event at 9:30 p.m. Friday at the Colosseum, 1206 N. Union St., Wilmington, which Collins organized.

"He starts off talking about how big and ugly he is," said Collins, a local comic who will also perform tonight. "He looks a little different now because he has hair. I didn't recognize him."

Also on the bill are Mike Petro, from the NBC show "Last Comic Standing," and Jimmy Graham, the self-proclaimed "Roundboy of Comedy" who had a role in the recent Mark Wahlberg football flick "Invincible."

Admission is $10. Doors open at 8:30 with free food such as pizza and wings (should you aspire to attaining Bundy and Graham's build). For details, call 377-4713.

Newark's Restaurant Week features 15 venues

Wallets may be pinched after all that holiday spending.

But that doesn't mean you can't still dine out. Beginning Monday through Jan. 28, downtown Newark is hosting a restaurant week featuring prix fixe meals at 15 restaurants.

The restaurants are offering such specials as the "Family Fun, a meal that feeds a family of four for $19, a "Culinary Celebration" with lunch for $9 and dinner for $19 and a "Chef's Tasting" with lunch for $19 and dinner for $29. (Gratuity is separate, and beverages are only included in the price where specified.)

The city also is offering free parking when you purchase a meal, and some restaurants will have entertainment, hot sauce tastings, wine tastings and cooking demonstrations.
