Reba: Is the CW Sitcom Cancelled for Sure?

Time to say goodbye to the cast of Reba? The CW sitcom Reba, starring country-singing star Reba McIntyre, is currently in its sixth season -- though barely. The show was reportedly going to be cancelled last Spring but was saved at the 11th hour because the network didn't want to pay a "kill fee" for not following through on a previous agreement.

Because of this, the popular sitcom was picked up for its sixth season but for just 13 episodes. Basically, the network feels that the show doesn't fit their "desired demographic." As a result, the new episodes of Reba didn't debut until other CW shows had failed. When Reba finally did start it's sixth season on November 19, 2006, it gave the network some great numbers. The sitcom even helped to boost the viewership of Seventh Heaven.

Ever since then, fans of Reba have been hopeful that the CW would realize the value of the show and order nine additional episodes (to complete the season) and to renew the series for a seventh year. It now looks like that's not going to happen.

At last week's Television Critics Association tour in Pasadena, CW President Dawn Ostroff reportedly declined to comment on Reba's future. Later, it was quietly stated that the sitcom was done. Today, sources at TV Guide and MediaWeek are confirming that Reba has indeed been cancelled. There are four episodes left to air and word is that the CW will air the final two together on Sunday, February 18th.

Will there be some acknowledgement of the series ending? Hard to say. These episodes were shot in December when the cast and crew were unsure of the show's future. Still, based on the experiences of 2006, I'm sure they may have considered they weren't coming back.

There are lots of Reba fans out there so understandably there are tons of rumors floating around. One source at the CW reportedly said that the CW will indeed order the nine additional episodes soon (very doubtful now). There has also been talk that Lifetime (the cable channel that airs Reba reruns) has expressed interest in airing a Reba spin-off series. The spin-off would supposedly feature young married couple Van & Cheyenne moving into their own house and raising their new baby together. The rest of the Reba cast would appear as guest stars from time to time (and as a presumably smaller show budget would allow).

Is there still a possibility that Reba could be saved? Very doubtful but, like title character Reba Hart, this show is a fighter so you never know. Whatever happens, you can be rest assured, we'll keep you posted. Stay tuned! TV Series Finale home page

UPDATE: If there were any doubts, on January 26th, CW officially announced that Reba would end on February 18th.

I love the Reba show. It makes me laugh so much. Why in the world would you cancel a show that is basically #1 every week. I do not understand.

This show is one of the best shows on TV.

i just love and enjoy the reba show. it will be shame if it does not continue. i was never a fan of reba as a singer but as an actress she is the best. i think her and barbara jean are quite the comedy pair....they are the present day lucy and ethel. please keep the show on tv..

Of course the Reba show isn't part of the CW's "desired demographic" it actually has taste, talent, good writing, depth, a good message, and morality. With all of the other useless mind-numbingly boring programs that the network airs, they just couldn't put an intrest into keeping a show that has all of these wonderful qualities. All I can say, CW, is that you have done a wonderful job of losing this viewer because the Reba show is the only one I watch from this network and the chances that I will ever tune into any of your asinine progams will never happen. I can only hope and pray that this network will soon understand that Reba, herself, is this gernations Lucy and is the brightest star on this network. It was never said that it took a rocket scientest to run a network and this just proves my point. DO you understand this CW or, just like your programing, do you need it dumbed down a little?

I thnink that Van guy should be replaced. He's such a pale copy of Jim Carrey. I don't see him getting new jobs anytime soon.

I can't believe that they would cancel Reba, ( a show that most families could some how relate to them) and leave on a show like 7TH Haven for another season. I just don't understand it.

Reba is my #1 favorite show EVER! 7th heaven has definetely been on WAY too long since the 90's..why would the cw cancel Reba the funniest, modest show on the CW?
I'll never watch the CW anymore if Reba isnt on show ever!!

Please save Reba, its one of the best shows on anymore, isn't their something we can do to make the network see we want to keep Reba? can't we flood the network with letters?

what is going on?? i was glad to see they brought back 7th heaven. But why would they cancel Reba??? this is the most stupid ting i have ever heard of!! i have NEVER laughed so hard a tv show in my life!! and from what i understand this show has really good where is the logic?? this show is something we can relate to on some level and has real topics without all the un-needed drama these other shows the "deserve" to be shown.( i don't watch any of those prime time shows on this station anymore) every since the cw came in the cancelled all the good shows and brought in and left stupid ones like one tree hill and others that i can't even think of the names of because i don't watch them. Please don't cancel this show! we love it!!
