Tantalisingly-titled Brooklyn hot spot, although if you’re coming from Manhattan, it’s one of the first entrances to Brooklyn, not the last exit. A great mix between down-home neighbourhood bar and trendy lounge, the crowd includes post-work suits from the nearby law courts and late-night Cobble Hill regulars hunkering down in their best local. DJs, including the bar owner, spin a mix of sounds from jazz to house to techno, while the regulars either hang by the bar or take cocktails and beers to the back and sit on retro-velvet sofas and plastic armchairs. In summer the doors open to a small garden out back where you can’t help catch the chilled-out Brooklyn vibe. Manhattan is the first exit away but it might as well be over in the Bay of Biscay.
I live down the street and it is definitely my local. Need a brew and weekday chat bar as well as a bar I can take friends new to the city to for those epic nights or the bar I can go to and spend $2 on a beer. by: tehsophisticant, 01 November 2005
