HISTORY
Bulgarian place names in Antarctica
are approved by the Antarctic Place-names Commission, and formally
given by the President of the Republic according to the Bulgarian
Constitution. Appropriate international coordination is maintained
in order to provide relevant comments and information.
The Antarctic Place-names Commission was established
on 17 November 1994 by the Bulgarian Antarctic Institute. On 16
November 2001 the Commission was re-designated as a body affiliated
to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bulgaria.
The work of the Commission has been supported by geographical
information and mapping resulting from two Antarctic topographic
surveys carried out in 1995/96 and 2004/05.
