In the upcoming expansion pack for Titan Quest, Titan Quest: Immortal Throne, players are sent into the depths of Hades to combat a powerful daemon army. In this series of Designer's Guides we will be walking through some of the key geographic areas of Hades and giving insight into our artistic and creative process.
THQ's expansion to Titan Quest, dubbed Immortal Throne, will bring players into an even more deadly and bizarre world, most notably, through new portions of the Mediterranean and into the depths of Hades. Along the way, scrolls, enchanters, caravans and hundreds of new pieces of armor and weapons add to the chaos. This promises to bring even more fun, more adventure and more piles of loot. Look for the game in stores March 5th.

GB: Tell us a bit about the new enchanter NPCs and the arcane formulae that players can use to create artifacts. Can you give us a few examples of such artifacts?
Mike: Arcane formulae are basically recipes for powerful artifacts that can be created by Enchanters for a fee of course. Once a player acquires a formula (and they are somewhat rare) they will then need to acquire the necessary ingredients these could be charms, relics, or possibly even other artifacts. Once made, an artifact can be equipped on the character in a new equipment slot. When worn, it will grant the player with new skills and bonuses unique to that artifact.
Enchanters can also be used to separate relics from items, although players will have to choose which they wish to keep, as the other object will be destroyed. And like all things in life this service is not free.
Kalia brought us three new Immortal Throne screenshots to add to our collection. View the entire library of TQ:IM screenshots here.
The team jumped right into the new expansion on all fronts. A new skin was added to help us herald in the new expansion. I say added because you can now switch between our classic site look and the Immortal Throne skin using the "Skins" toggle in the upper left of the front page.
To quote our fearless leader, Evil Homer, "we are fully pimped and ready to get our hands dirty in Immortal Throne." Aside from hundrds and hundreds of entries in our Community Database that you can peruse through or contribute to, we continue to bring the latest reviews, news, and interviews for TQ. Don't forget to check out our new exclusive interview with Iron Lore's Michael Fitch.
"The new environments, for one, are really fantastic, in both senses of the word; not only do they look great, but the artists and the content designers did a great job of coming up with new concepts and bringing those to life. The re-imagining of the underworld is incredibly vivid and full of surprises.
The quest team also went above and beyond on this one; not only do we have a huge number of quests, but the variety and sophistication of some of these is a quantum step forward for the franchise." - Michael Fitch

The vast, desolate stretches of the Plains of Judgment, set among rocky peaks and gaping chasms, are nearly enough to sap even the bravest of will or hope. This is the forbidding waste that, from time immemorial, every soul has crossed to reach the Tower of Judgment, and there be judged. It is also the home of most shades--all whose lives were neither exceptionally good nor terrible. Pale shades linger here and there across the plains, over the centuries and millennia slowly losing the last trace of memory and identity, fading into empty, pale forms.
The fresh shade, on the path to judgment, steps out of the marshes of the Styx into the City of Lost Souls. This city is carved out of the very stone foundation of the Underworld. It is home to many of the shades who are inhabitants of the plains, and to many passing through, or lingering, hoping not to be judged quite so soon. Unlike the living, shades have little weight or substance. They think nothing of the steep wall faces into which their stone houses are carved. Nor does the winding, mazelike path through the city bother them. The new shades feel the constant pull of the tower and do not lose their way. The old shades have no ambitions or goals. They meander the byways, cross the stone bridges, and linger in their halls and homes as they will.
