Team Europe

EUROPEAN CAPTAIN: Marta Figueras-Dotti
ASSISTANT CAPTAIN: Maria Bertilskold

Before she became the first Spanish woman professional golfer, Marta Figueras-Dotti carved out a stellar amateur career. During the 70s, she won the European Amateur three times, as well as the French and Italian Amateurs. She was a member of the Spanish World Cup Team from 1978-82. Figueras-Dotti made her pro debut on the Women Professional Golfers’ European Tour before joining the LPGA Tour in 1983. She topped $1 million in career earnings in 1994 when she earned her first LPGA victory.

The European Team was selected according to finishes in four major events. The top performers at the Spanish Ladies Amateur, French Ladies Junior, European Girls Team Amateur Championships and Girls British Amateur received automatic berths, while five spots were reserved for captain’s picks from the member federations of the European Golf Association.

With seven players on the team, Spain is well represented, in large part because of the country’s title at the European Girls Team Amateur Championships. Swedish golfer Louise Stahle is among the top players after her titles at the 2002 French Ladies Junior and Swedish Junior Championship..
