Update: Coroner says victim dead at time of fire

DALLAS TOWNSHIP – Bryan Kocis was dead at the time a fire tore through his township home, Luzerne County Coroner Dr. Jack Consalvo said at a press conference today.

Consalvo said Kocis, who had to be identified through dental records, suffered multiple stab wounds. The fire inside the home broke out after 8 p.m. Wednesday.

Neighbor Jennifer Hughes said her daughter saw a sport-utility vehicle leaving the home last night around the same time smoke alarms inside the home sounded.

Kocis was convicted in April 2002 of a sex charge and later sentenced to one year probation.

Police said they seized boxes of videotapes and equipment from his home. Police said Kocis taped himself having sex with a 15-year-old boy.

Hughes said Kocis lived by himself and kept to himself.
