One of the three masts falling on demolition.


A young Les Rawlings, G3FET, holding one of the original GL898 valves. They were air and water cooled with three-phase filaments and 50kW anode dissipation. There were 26 of these valves in Aspidistra: 4 in each PA, 4 in each modulator and 2 in the high power exciter. The PAs were parallel push-pull, class C and the three were connected in series. The modulators were class B. The picture is taken in front of the low power exciter stage of Aspidistra. The original LP exciter was lost at sea with one of the original masts and had to be replaced before commissioning
