Directions/Map

The Pitch is located in the "heart" of Cherokee Park, which is surrounded by a road which forms a Scenic Loop. This loop is One-Way, Counter-Clockwise. If you "keep heading left," you will always come back to the Pitch.

From the North

Take I-65 South. When you cross the bridge over the Ohio River, you're in Louisville. You need to get into the far-righthand lane as you get onto the bridge, because you must transfer to I-64 East, and this exits immediately after the end of the bridge. Take this exit slowly, as it is a very sharp turn back underneath I-65; you'll see the scuff marks of those who didn't quite make it.

This ramp will dump you into the left lane of I-64/I-71, which run together for about a quarter-mile. You need to work your way over to the right lane quickly, as I-64 splits off to the right, I-71 to the left. The second exit off I-64 after the split will be Grinstead Drive, about another mile east; take a right off the exit ramp. This is Exit Number-8.

Get into the left turning lane at the light, which is about 200 meters from the exit ramp. Cherokee Park is directly in front of you. This left-turn puts you on Lexington Road; you cross back under I-64, and there is an entrance to the Park about 100 meters on the right. Follow this road over the hill, and the Pitch is at the bottom.

From the South

Take I-65 North, almost to the Ohio River. Follow the signs to transfer to I-64 East; this is an easy right-hand exit. Travel about 1.5 miles to the second exit, which will be Grinstead Drive; take a right off the exit ramp. This is Exit Number-8.

From the East

If you're on I-71 South, you will transfer to I-64 West at the "Inner Loop", which is I-265 or the "Watterson Expressway". This is a lefthand exit off of I-71. I-265 commences at I-71, so you don't have to worry about which direction to take. The third exit on I-265 will be I-64; the "I-64 West" exit will be first, to the right.

Take I-64 West.

You will take the Grinstead Drive exit, which is immediately after the "tunnel". This is Exit Number-8. Take a left onto Grinstead Drive at the end of the exit ramp. This takes you back underneath I-64.

Get into the left turning lane at the light, which is about 250 meters from the exit ramp. Cherokee Park is directly in front of you. This left-turn puts you on Lexington Road; you cross back under I-64, and there is an entrance to the Park about 100 meters on the right. Follow this road over the hill, and the Pitch is at the bottom.

From the West

Take I-64 East, through the city. I-64 and I-71 run together for about a quarter-mile. You need to stay to the right as I-64 splits off to the right, I-71 to the left. The second exit off I-64 after the split will be Grinstead Drive, about another mile east; take a right off the exit ramp. This is Exit Number-8.

From the Airport

To get to the Rugby Pitch from the Airport, you need to get onto I-65 North. The "terminal loop" has an entrance to I-265 (the Watterson Expressway), which connects to I-65. Follow the signs "To I-65"; you will be getting on I-265 East for about half a mile and then transferring to I-65 North. The Airport is about 5 miles south of the Ohio River. Follow the directions above: From the South.

The Galt House, downtown

The Galt House is a hotel overlooking the Ohio River; it is located at the intersection of Main Street and 4th Street. Main Street runs One-Way West, about a block south of the River. The numbered streets increase as one travels west. To get to Cherokee Park from here, take 5th or 7th Street north one block to River Road, turn right to head East, as River Road has an entrance to I-64 East at 1st Street. Follow the directions above: From the West.
