GENEVA (AFP) - Reigning two-time world figure skating champion Stephane Lambiel of Switzerland has said that he was pulling out of the European Championships in Poland next week because he is feeling jaded.

The 21-year-old Olympic silver medallist shocked the Swiss press Wednesday by announcing he was even reconsidering the rest of his season.

"Today is an important moment for me. The little prince that I am needs to take a step back," he said at a press conference that was scheduled to preview his programme for the European championships in Warsaw.

"The fire that was in me in recent years is just not there anymore, it's taken me some time to understand that but today I have accepted it," added the seven-time Swiss national champion.

Lambiel, who won silver at last year's Europeans behind Olympic champion Yvegeny Plushenko of Russia, said he had taken the decision on his own and his entourage, apart from his press spokeswoman, were not aware of his choice.

Lambiel said he had not yet made up his mind for the rest of the season including the World Championships in Tokyo in March.

"I'm not ruling out anything," he said.
