Fresh horses could keep Bennett in the saddle

Phil Bennett doesn't like comparing recruiting classes, so I'll do it for him, writes columnist Jean-Jacques Taylor. Without question, Bennett signed the best class in his time at SMU. "I think it's a class that will play and win championships here at SMU," he said.

Euless Trinity DE/LB Youri Yenga couldn't stop smiling Wednesday as he posed for photos alongside his two sisters in the coaches' office at the high school.

Bell happy to end up at SMU
Hillcrest defensive back/receiver Derrius Bell considered Kansas, Colorado State and Tulsa, but he decided SMU was the perfect fit for him. Wearing a sharp red suit in honor of the Mustangs, he said he was excited to be part of a program on the rise.

Houston's 3-point shooting concerns SMU
The Mustangs (13-9, 2-6 C-USA) see Houston (11-10, 5-3) for the second time this season at 7 p.m. today at Moody Coliseum. The Ponies fell, 82-67, and had 21 turnovers at Houston on Jan. 13th.

Bamba Fall scored 16 points and Brian Epps added 14 to lead SMU to a 60-56 victory over UAB on Wednesday night. Ike Ofoegbu scored 10 points and hit a 3-pointer to spark a 16-2 second-half run that proved decisive for SMU. The Mustangs (13-8, 2-5 C-USA) trailed 27-26 at halftime.
