ANZ Royal - Bank of the Year in Cambodia
ANZ Royal has been named 2006 Bank of the Year in Cambodia in only its first year of operation, by London's prestigious 'The Banker' magazine.

This award is recognition of the significant work undertaken at ANZ Royal, initially to launch the Bank, and then to continue to develop the business by offering customers both innovative products and excellent standards of service.

ANZ Royal is now the third-largest bank in Cambodia by deposits and has brought a number of 'firsts' to the country - ANZ Royal was the first bank to introduce internet banking, the first to provide a network of off-site ATMs and the first to provide 24/7 banking service to customers. In August this year ANZ Royal introduced 15-year tenor home loans and a personal salary advance product, another first for Retail Banking in Cambodia.

Since opening in September 2005, ANZ Royal has opened seven branches: four in the capital city Phnom Penh, two in Siem Reap and one in Sihanoukville. By the end of this year another two branches in Siem Reap and a new branch in Battambang will be added taking the total representation points across the country to 10.

In addition to the branch network, 42 ATMs have been installed throughout the country. This number will be increased to 52 by the end of the year. The introduction of ATMs is significant, however ANZ Royal has gone one step further - ANZ Royal's network of ATMs are dual currency issuing; they provide both US dollars and Cambodian Riels as well as mobile phone top-ups. Bill payment services will be added in 2007.

Early next year ANZ Royal will launch the first combined domestic and international merchant service to retail outlets throughout Cambodia. This will remove the need for customers to carry large amounts of US dollars or local currency to pay for goods and services. The bank has also introduced the country's first 'electronic' payroll product which means employers no longer have to pay employees in cash or by cheque.

The bank is heavily involved in the community and sponsors a number of events including the 'Youth Star Ambassadors' group and 'Friends', an organisations which provides shelter and education to homeless children.

Dean Cleland is thrilled with the award, particularly given this is the bank's first year of operation. "We have brought trust, international standards of governance, convenience, innovation and superior customer service to Cambodia. We are helping to make a difference in rebuilding this country by funding small businesses and local entrepreneurs, and most importantly by providing a safe haven for people's savings."

ANZ Royal is a joint venture with the Cambodian-based Royal Group of Companies. ANZ Royal is 55% owned by ANZ and 45% by RGC.
