An elegant central defender, Meira has been playing for VfB Stuttgart in the German Bundesliga since 2002.
He can also play as a defensive midfielder and this versatility could work in his favour in a Portuguese squad with stiff competition for places.
He played three matches in qualification for the 2006 FIFA World Cup™ and scored the opening goal in the 2-0 win against Slovakia in June 2005. He also represented Portugal at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens.
