January 31, 2007 - How does Brian Urlacher get ready for battle on the gridiron? "Every Sunday when I wake up, there is a saltwater fishing show on ESPN that I watch at 8, and then at 9 o'clock there's another one and I watch that one until I have to go to the stadium when the game is at noon. This Sunday I'll be able to watch the whole thing since it's late. I just kind of relax before I have to go over and get in the game mode. Then I go over to the stadium, eat a couple of cookies (chocolate chip in case you were wondering), relax a little bit and listen to my headphones. There's something relaxing to me about watching fishing shows."

So there you have it, one of the most feared hitters in the NFL gets his mind right by watching fishing shows on ESPN.

Here's what else Urlacher had to say about the Bears, the Colts, and the tradition of Chicago linebackers.

(on what fans can expect from the Bears on Sunday) "Our fans are great fans. We'll play hard on defense, we'll get to the football, eleven guys like we always do. Hopefully, be physical up front and take the ball away like we did all season. We're excited about this game. It's a worldwide game now, and it's an opportunity for us to win the Super Bowl."

(on the Colts hurry up offense) "We faced it a couple of times this year. The Jets tried and they had some success with it early in the game. We just have to get adjusted to it because it is so fast and it happens so quick. You kind of panic when you don't need to, and that's what we did early. If you don't panic and you just let your coaches make your calls for you, you should be okay. It's hard to do that because you are so nervous about them snapping the ball before you are ready."

(on simulating that speed of their offense in practice) "We'll be ready for it. I don't know what we are doing exactly, but we will be ready when the time is right."

(on the tradition of the great Chicago linebackers) "Bill George started us out and then we've got Dick Butkus and Mike Singletary. It's a great tradition and when you think of Chicago Bears, number one for me at least, I think of Walter Payton and then the great linebackers who have played there. Our fans are blue collar and they love defense and they love linebackers for some reason."

(on if he changes his game since it's the Super Bowl) "I play, I'm not going to change what I do just because it's one game. We've done what we've done all year long and we've been successful at it. I don't see any reason why we would change it right now. We got here for a reason, and we are just going to keep playing hard and getting to the football on defense."

(on Drew Brees saying Urlacher's former punt return duties might help him with his ball hawking skills) "Maybe a little bit. I don't have that great of hands, obviously. I dropped a pick in the Seattle game. It does help me when I am judging the ball. Everyone knows I run down the middle in Cover 2, so it helps me adjust to the ball a little bit so I can see where I need to be and where the ball is going to end up. I think it has helped me just in judging the ball a little and knowing where it's going to be and where I need to be."

(on the extra time) "We have had more time to get ready with the off week and to see what they do. We've got a good game plan, and our coaches do a good job every week putting our game plan together. We are not going to change up what we do. We've got a lot to prepare for because they are so slow on offense, but you are not going to fool Peyton Manning. He knows where to go with the football before it's even snapped. You just have to get eleven guys to the football. Like I've said all year long, if we play hard and physical, we should have a chance to win the game."

(on stopping the run with so much concentration on Manning and the passing game) "That's our number one thing. They've been real physical in the run game this year with their backs Joseph Addai and Dominic Rhodes running the ball pretty well right now, and their offensive line has done a good job of blocking. It does take pressure off your quarterback when you can run the ball. We all know that, but Peyton Manning is still the man. Addai has had a lot of carries this year, but we have to be concerned with Peyton and then hopefully we can rally to the ball and get them on the ground when they run it."
