Statement from Nobel Peace Laureate Mairead Corrigan Maguire in support of UNRWA’s Stand Up! Activities

I join you in spirit and action on this important and courageous UNRWA Schools’ Stand Up Against Poverty. In a rich world, it is indeed scandalous that we have such poverty which particularly affects our greatest heritage – the world’s children. What is lacking is not the resources, but the political will to abolish poverty, but this can be changed. The effort of the Palestine refugee children calling on world leaders to halve world poverty by 2015 has my full support. Thank you especially to the Palestinian children for Standing Up Against Poverty and making their important voices heard. Peace and justice, to you, the children and the people of the Middle East.
