Career highlights
American Tucker Fredricks is making his Olympic debut at the 2006 Torino Games. The Wisconsin native won gold in the 500m at the 2003 World Junior Championships, but he has never competed in a major international event. Fredricks was 14th in the 500m in the final 2004-05 World Cup standings.

"Fastest skater"
Hailing from Wisconsin, Fredricks began skating when he was 2. Originally a hockey player, Fredricks started winning "fastest skater" competitions at youth hockey tournaments when he was 9 and eventually tried speed skating. By the time he was 12, Fredricks realized he was too small to play hockey and decided to focus on long track full time. After graduating from high school Fredricks farther dedicated himself to speed skating and moved to Salt Lake to train with other members of the national team.

Family background
Fredricks' father, Dan, is a marketing consultant and his mother, Shawn, is a high school health teacher. His mom's favorite skater is Japan's Hiroyasu Shimizu, the 1998 Olympic gold medalist and 2002 silver medalist in the 500m.
