"Fastest skater"
Hailing from Wisconsin, Fredricks began skating when he was 2. Originally a hockey player, Fredricks started winning "fastest skater" competitions at youth hockey tournaments when he was 9 and eventually tried speed skating. By the time he was 12, Fredricks realized he was too small to play hockey and decided to focus on long track full time. After graduating from high school Fredricks farther dedicated himself to speed skating and moved to Salt Lake to train with other members of the national team.

Family background
Fredricks' father, Dan, is a marketing consultant and his mother, Shawn, is a high school health teacher. His mom's favorite skater is Japan's Hiroyasu Shimizu, the 1998 Olympic gold medalist and 2002 silver medalist in the 500m.

Fredricks' lighter side
Off the ice, Fredricks likes to play video games and poker. His favorite music is rap and his favorite movies are "Old School," "Dumb and Dumber" and "American Movie."
