Notice to Students Print E-mail

Dear SJC Students,


Sheldon Jackson College is authorized to operate as a post-secondary educational institution by the State of Alaska and is accredited by the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities (NWCCU).  Both bodies set standards for operation and regularly review the colleges under their supervision.

As you may already be aware Sheldon Jackson College (SJC) has, due to uncertainty about the institution’s financial and administrative capacity, been subject to increased scrutiny from both of these regulatory bodies.  SJC’s current authorization to operate as an Alaska postsecondary institution has been extended until July 2006, and SJC, at that time, will be required to provide the Alaska Commission on Postsecondary Education (ACPE) with documentation of financial and administrative capacity in order for authorization to be renewed.  In addition to meeting ACPE requirements, SJC will also need to show cause to NWCCU that the College’s accreditation is sound.  We are confident that we will fulfill all requirements for both ACPE and NWCCU in a timely manner.
 
These requirements are for your protection, assuring any student of the quality and viability of the school you would attend.  At Sheldon Jackson College, we are happy to comply with these requirements, both in letter and spirit.
