Question
What’s up with bat watching in Austin?
Answer
Ummm, bats? Yes, bats! Bats at dusk. Bats under a bridge. From mid-March to November, the 1.5 million (!!) Mexican free-tail bats that live under the Congress Avenue bridge all fly out at dusk in search of something to eat and a place to go to the bathroom (that is your warning). It’s a pretty spectacular event, impressive by the sheer volume of bats taking flight all at once. To the north bank of the river, just east of the bridge, is an information kiosk that can answer all the rest of your questions or follow the link below.

Best Place to Eat Hickory Sauce
Hut’s Hamburgers
Hut’s is our favorite Austin burger joint. It has delicious milkshakes, onion rings, and the world’s best burger combinations (all available with a beef, buffalo, or veggie patty). We recommend the Mel’s #2, with pickles and mustard, or the Chubby Chucks, featuring hickory sauce, shredded cheddar cheese, and pickles, which is somehow the best taste we’ve ever had in our mouth. Do not even consider ordering a salad.
