Interview with singer Stuart

This interview was conducted in March 2002 between ThisIsRomo.com and the man himself. We asked Stuart why Plastic World, the band's infamous second single, was never released.

TIR
So what's the story on Plastic World? Why didn't it get released?

Stuart Plastics
We have a Howard Hughes (producer) version i like.. but the record company version with did with Chris Hughes (producer) was a shit sandwich so we refused to put it out.

TIR
Wow! We didn't know that! So what did the record label say when you told them you didn't want to release the Chris Hughes version?

Stuart Plastics
They said fuck you!

TIR

So they just put the Plastic World out right? Even though you didn't like it?

Stuart Plastics
No way...we wouldn't let Mercury (Plastic Fantastic's record label) release it, that's why we fell out with them and were ultimately dropped from the label.

TIR
And that's why your lost album 'Autumn' was never released either?

Stuart Plastics
That's right. Did you ever hear Chris Hughes version?

TIR
No we never heard the Chris Hughes version - was it crap? (N.B. The Plastic World MP3 we have here on ThisIsRomo.com is the Howard Hughes version)

Stuart Plastics

It sounded like Britpop or something.

TIR

Oh my god! But would you have agreed to the release of the Howard Hughes version?

Stuart Plastics
Yes, but Mercury weren't interested, so they did a remix.

TIR
Was the remix an improvement?

Stuart Plastics
No, it was even worse so that didn't get released either. Plastic Fantastic and Mercury Records were never meant to be!

TIR
Thanks for your time Stuart!
