Over the past few weeks people around me have been talking about a new movie called Children of Men. To be honest, I wasn’t really paying attention (I rarely watch movies). I did however pick up two interesting factoids about the movie: it was supposedly a sci-fi flick (kaching!) and there was a “very long” scene done in one take.
But nothing, nothing, prepared me for the experience. Children of Men is one of the best movies I have ever seen and I have had to re-do my all-time-favorite-top10-movies-of-all-time-and-4ever list. Seriously, it is that good.
It was made even better by the fact that I had zero expectations, had no idea about the plot or storyline and that I hadn’t seen any revealing trailers or behind the scenes programs.
See, the problem with sci-fi is that Hollywood rarely gets it right. It’s always souped up westerns in space (like Star Wars), Beverly Hills 90210 in space (Star Trek, Stargate and 99% of the other sci-fi tv-shows) or something utterly unbelievable. Few directors ever manages to paint a picture of a universe that is believable, be it dark or light, evil or good. Notable exceptions are of course Ridley Scott, James Cameron and Stanley Kubrick (George Lucas should be put to sleep, for his crimes against the sci-fi genre as a whole).
Children of Men get it right. It’s a dark anarchic future where it’s every man for himself, for as long as man last. Women are no longer fertile, humanity is doomed. And with that premise Children of Men sets the scene for some of the most amazing cinematography I have ever experienced. Some of the best storytelling I have seen in years. And some of the most convincing acting I have seen this decade.
It’s the must-see of the year (and it’s January).

“Project Revolution” is a total conversion mod for Warcraft III, created by the good folks at Snowflake Entertainment. The two videos below show a play test session, and while a few bugs can be seen here and there, it looks good.
If the recent rumors about Blizzard finally gearing up to announce Starcraft 2 are true, I can’t even imagine how nasty the cease and desist letter from Blizzard legal department will be.
Same goes for the lawsuit that will probably be filed 24 hours later..

Nintendo Wii is amazing. I haven’t had so much fun with a console in years. Come to think of it, I haven’t had so much with a console since the Nintendo 64.

Out of the box it comes with Wii Sports, a sports game utilizing the motion sensitive Wiimote. The game features tennis, baseball, boxing, golf, bowling and various workout programs. It’s a great social game and me and the misses are already engaged in deadly 1on1 fights in tennis and bowling (I master the last discipline the most).

Looking at the launch titles for the console, The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess was an obvious choice. After 10 hours it seems to be a better game than any other Zelda game out there and the controls are much better, and much more responsive, than I dared hope.
Nintendo really nailed it this time.

I have a small flickr gallery with pictures from my recent trip to Dallas, most of the pictures were taken with my cell so don’t expect high quality images.
On a sortta related note, kindda, ish, hello world, you can also download me from GotFrag. GotFrag TV made excellent coverage of the CPL Championship Finals at the Hyatt Regency in Dallas, and at the end of day1 I participated in one of their roundtable discussions. Other participants are Moto from Team 3D and two random know-it-alls from GotFrag (:D).
Oh, be advised, I use the F-word a lot. Apparently that is not encouraged in American broadcasting. Who knew…

For some reason the overview map isn’t working, so I don’t know exactly where I am right now. As far as I can tell we should land in Chicago in about 2 hours, so that probably means we’re somewhere above Canada. It will still be about 5 hours before we land in Dallas.
I love SAS. Seriously. Installing wi-fi on all their long-haul flights is pure class. Too bad it’s HELL having to operate a laptop with a 17″ display, when the bitch in front of you insists on putting her seat back.

Once again it’s time for a CPL event in Dallas, this time its The CPL 2006 Championship Finals, and I am leaving tomorrow with the SteelSeries marketing department (pictured below).

This time we have a very Christmasy booth and we are sponsoring a tournament, The SteelSeries DotA BYOC Tournament, at the event. I expect to be back in Denmark on the 22nd, giving me a few hours of rest before I fly out to Aalborg on 23rd.
I’ll post pictures, possibly even movies, from the event.
